In Response To: "Re: Girls Academy names DPL as its official 2nd tier competition platform"

The Girls Academy (GA) announced that the Development Player League (DPL) has been named as its official 2nd tier competition platform.

Clubs with teams in both leagues will benefit from an expanded player pool. DPL clubs not yet in the GA will calibrate with GA club standards and ultimately utilize the DPL as a proving ground for potential advancement into the GA.

“We are looking forward to partnering with the DPL to add another layer to our programming within the Girls Academy,” said Lesle Gallimore, GA Commissioner. “This partnership gives us a tiered structure in our league set-up to allow clubs the ease of player movement between the two teams. It also provides clubs who have a need for an aspirational competitive environment to utilize as a proving ground for the Girls Academy.”

GA teams will remain in the top slot, as the clubs’ best teams, and compete amongst other GA clubs’ teams locally, regionally, and across the country. Clubs with teams in the DPL will also compete locally, regionally, and nationally against other DPL teams. Furthermore, both the GA and DPL are girls only leagues, player-centric and share similar values. These common characteristics will lay the foundation for a successful partnership.

“The DPL is so excited to be officially partnering with the GA, the premier girls soccer league in the country,” said Mary-Frances Monroe, DPL Commissioner. “Not only does this partnership make the DPL stronger, it allows for a potential pathway into the GA for the most successful clubs and allows dual clubs to manage their player pools according to their needs. As the DPL commissioner, I can’t wait to see this partnership thrive.”
