The deal with the refs is that all of the Suffolk County officials at all of the sports do not have a contract and as of right now they won’t be there to officiate the games. So no officials, means no games.

Back of THE NET had that new story scrolled across the top last week for quite a few days. The story was originally reported in Newsday.

The good news is we’re still a month away at the very least so there’s time for this situation to remedy itself.

The parents will find out in greater numbers soon. Then the fun begins.

Is it greed or supply and demand? I'm sure the referees are taking the stance that there are to few of them being asked to cover to many games with increased travel to have hostile work environment. Sounds to me like the referees are in complete control of the situation.

Exactly. I don't ref soccer but the crap we deal with as officials is insane and we are not well compensated so if people think greed is a factor for officials you're dead wrong. It's just a little extra money for us.

As my daughter goes throw tryouts for another year, can someone explain the logic of 5 straight days of 2-a-days for two hours each time. This is not healthy for the kids and will, inevitably, lead to injuries. Winter and Spring sports dont torture their athletes like this. Why do we allow it for fall sports?

IMO... if you're goin to do 2 a days, it should be a harder, fitness based session in the AM and tactical session in the evening where the workload is much lighter. Sadly, High school "coaches" would rather just run the kids in to the ground....

You concerns are completely on point. Its a terrible idea. Look at the incdent with Sachem East 3-4 years ago. They were forced to settle a lawsuit (for millions) brought by the mother of the football player that was on the tail end of carrying a telephone pool and was crushed. Sadly he died because of some serious negligence by the athletic director and the coaching staff.

School caches need to be smart but they are not because its the taxpayers money at stake when they make really poor decisions.

Depends on the coach. Some follow the fitness Am tactical in PM model. That should come from the schools Athletic Director without exception

This is what happens when a social studies teacher or any other type with no soccer background coach for the extra $$$$......Many of them are clueless....

You can get 10 practices in easily without making it hell. Zero fitness gains will be made through 2 a day sessions and you will never get an understanding of the technical and tactical skill level of a player because after 2 days of it they're toast unless they're a freak athlete. It's developmentally inappropriate and it doesn't do anything but grind kids down.

If the coaches has a [****] clue they'd do all tactical and technical drills at high tempo game like conditions which actually improves game.conditooning! But no, you've got a guidance counselor running a joint tryouts with JV and varsity where kids that are 13 are playing vs kids who are 18. Just [****] hole stupid.

Coach John the history teacher may have even played college ball but that doesn't mean he knows [****] all about tryouts athletic development and how to structure a season for periodization.

I should also note that very few trainers at the club level get this either. At least in my experience.

Your right. Most HS coaches in soccer are clueless. They kick and chase and undermine everything they’ve been taught in club ball.
