Surf raised prices to SUSA, EM range. Hugh increase! That's why most were seen at tryouts for other clubs. EC/Surf has ECRL but EMSC & SUSA have the coveted ECNL. If expense is the same, might as well get the real thing. Yeah, EM and SUSA may have ECNL, however those teams have been locked in place with their rosters prior to the tryouts. Maybe they left a couple slots open for some outsiders from competitor clubs....even then, they'd probably stick them on the RL team. Same with Jerome's Friends and Family (now ECRL) lol. Ain't no outsiders getting on that either.. The only openings that all these kids tried out for are on the EC/SURF B, C and D teams which they'll be happy to fill....same story with SUSA......plenty of space on D, E, F teams.

what is the guarantee given that keeps parents paying what i assume is an astronomical fee to these programs ? You should see the ridiculous prices they are paying this upcoming year at Surf, that is why they are losing so many kids to quality clubs like LISC. EC is eating Surf alive, and from what they have done this year, it will be another year in the dumps. Watch Jon out at Surf and looking for work this time next year. I laugh that the 08’s A team if that’s what you want to call them is going into next year with almost the same roster. But price went up so much. And the coach they named is not impressive. They won 2 games and in bottom brackets in almost all showcases. Talk about drinking the kool-aid. Who will be the coach next year?

I see alot of bashing for surf and its kind of crazy because I was at tryouts with my daughter who believe me isnt anything special but I was trying to support her by putting her in a competitive environment opposed to her current team but the pool of players to pick from wasnt great honestly but also seen the slander of many B team parents upset that they didnt get opportunities and stuff to get into the A team unless you were from that team but realistically watching the B team play against my daughter no one really stood out just a bunch of girls with a trampoline touch and not being able to do the little things I am not shocked they didnt get called up and from watching tryouts you can tell who was the A B and C and D team players by the speed of play and consistency of the passes and touches. I still havent decided what to do for my daughter but thought id give my opinion

One coach told me if he id not adding a starter he is not adding the player to the team

I still havent decided what to do for my daughter but thought id give my opinion You couldn't have seen anything. A team players sat out for most of the tryouts. Jerome pooled them together at the end and did not let them play against the other teams. As a matter of fact, when the girls in the B team scored, against the FAF team, he took them off never cycled them back into play. That was when he started to replace the FAF team mates that were sprinkled in with the others and set off to the side I think he had enough seeing their quality when up against other better girls he wanted to maintain a semblence to fairness. To his detriment. The better girls all left the club.

Agreed especially if adding the new girl is not that much better than the other girl who is already on the team and lets say if the new girls parents are going to be a headache with constantly not be happy and complaining I can understand why some coaches wont make the switch if the other girl is glad to be part of the team and parents are happy with the role. Which sucks in regards to the daughter but thats LI soccer at its core alot of decisions are made just based off the energy given off by parents.

As if the parents are the ones playing the game, or attending tryouts. Bollocks. It should be to the benefit of the children.

Guessing they gave up the rights to use the Surf franchise name? i.e. not paying the franchise fee? I’m not sure about that. I think to save face, and to save the players, they may still keep the surf name alive, however, in my opinion, it’s more to help their bottom line than help the players. I also spoke to a parent who has a daughter who plays at surf and the parent told me they just got new uniforms again for 200+ dollars. This is youth soccer at its best on Long Island. Money talks, so nobody will walk and the players and the parents follow along like sheep. Maybe the parents of the girls at surf want to take a long hard and good look at the Long Island soccer club, just sayin’. Ahem. From earlier in the year. Surf parents seems to have listened and many have walked away. I head over 100+ turned out at their tryouts. However they've been having a hard time keeping families from leaving. That Surf name meant nothing to them, especially with more kids looking to leave when the dust settles. And from what os being posted many have left for Long Island Soccer Club so kudos to them for being the better alternative to the nepotism at EC/Surf. Shame, shame, shame on JonF for allowing that to happen to the Surf brand. He got a punch in the face by all the long time Surf parents that had his back over the years. Deserved it all for turning his back to them and giving up his brand to Jerome, all to favor his little kid. Whatever happened to having them compete fairly for a spot on a Surf team that will represent the brand at the top level? That only works on the West Coast and New England Surf. Jon fed NY Surf to the dogs. Wait till the rest of his parents run out to LISC and take up all the other options.

Im not disagreeing with you, it should definitely be about the player but in most cases than not due to the headache and issues that some parents cause with coaches and clubs those are the ones who usually bounce from club to club and I know many players who are barley 13-14 that have been at 5-6 different clubs and its always those parents pointing the finger at others but never themselves and the player are the ones paying for those repercussions

The ones that left are not club hoppers either but moreso been supporting Jon for a while. I think he simply made a bad business decision that stained the Surf brand. He's gotta have to live with it. When Jerome's FAF gets hammered next year, they'll be in a pickle as this reputation at NY Surf will precede them and it will be a hard life trying to get quality player to go to the club.

JF never owned Surf. He's an employee. He will be on the unemployment line very soon. He should have known better, sacrificed his loyal families to accede to the needs of Jerome, who's only in it to get his daughter in the right soccer circle. But in order for that to happen, JF needed to displace his skilled girls making them the 2nd class citizens at Surf. Then tryouts came around and it was too late as girls all knew who was getting moved before it happened. Parents were butt hurt and the hardworking girls and the ones with all the skills made their positions very clear in the weeks coming up to the end of the season. That team went to the coveted Delco tourny without a full team. Girls refused to go to team games and instead rather play for their local LIJSL teams. He really made a mess of it all. We are glad to not be part of that debacle. Hopefully he pays for his mistake and doesn't come to LISC looking for work after that FAF team get's their azzzes handed to them and Surf corporate starts knocking on his door for an explanation. Either way...good riddance.

This is a lot of talk about ONE team. FAF or no FAF, it's ONE! team in a club. He only has one kid in the club, so this idea that people are leaving in droves because he has his kid on ONE of the teams in the club seems like nonsense. That this man supposedly ruined a club and a brand because he has his kid on the A team is crazy! Who cares? It's one team, and if they suck because his daughter and the couple of friends on the team suck, so be it. It's ONE team. Not a single other parent except the ones in this age group care about this at all and probably don't even know.
I heard there was a significant turnout at EC/SURF tryouts, but I heard the same from LISC. To that point, everyone here is leaving for LISC from EMSC and Surf. They can only field one A team per age group, so what teams are all these girls going to? and if they are wiping out their current A teams to accommodate all of the EC/SURF and EMSC best girls, where are their current girls going?
Everyone talks a big game, but the truth is, like the earlier poster stated, the older the age group, the fewer open spots. He is right coaches will not replace some of their bottom 5 on an A team unless it is for a starter and a good one at that. They are also looking at chemistry and the parents. If a coach has a good team with great parents and a group of girls that all get along well, he is more apt not to move girls down or out.

His only concern ever was for his FAF team and getting his kid and her cronies into a more competitive league. He used Surf to get that access and now he could care less. Hence, why NY Surf wasn't even listed on the Delco players roster....it was listed as East Coast FC. He would've been better off staying in Elite 64 and moving the right girls up and the weaker girls down, rather than playing in this new RL league which is pretty much EDP.

Yes, I agree he is so rich that he would throw the whole club down the drain and lose all his investment to please his daughter. He doesn't care about the rest of the club at all, only one team. ECNL RL won't put up with a team finishing last after they have their asses handed to them. They will be out of the league next year all because of the one team he has his daughter on. You all hit the nail on the head. He really messed up and will lose everything, just like the EMSC club. If they had one team finish last or get their asses handed to them, they would be out. Thank god they have a combined 8-43 record this year, or who knows what would happen. He must not understand how the ECNL leagues work because they are surely not going to put up with a team doing badly, especially when they find out FAF is involved. You made the right move EC/SURF will not be around next year with all these shenanigans going on. Wait until other parents find out about the FAF they will pull their kids from all the A teams to get away from that kind of behavior. We all know how virtuous soccer parents on LI are they won't stand for it!!

This here is the exact reason why LI cannot produce a competitive team with talent deserving of one of our national teams. Think about that for a sec. This is why. FAF can never bring out the best athletes or attract the top talent. Hence our problem here in LI.

JF, not so much. So what if kids leave for LISC, he will still be on top of the game. Again you people don’t know who you are dealing with.

At the end of the day, Jerome could care less about Surf or the other teams in which all the good players left. East Meadow finishes last in every age group every year and ECNL doesn't get rid of them. I don't think performance and quality of soccer matters to ECNL. If it did EM and SUSA wouldn't be in the league. It's all about money What clubs do you think ECNL could replace them with? My sense is that these clubs win by default. Your thoughts.
