Although with agreeing with a lot of the list Chris Ortiz shouldn’t be on this list he is a casualty of JG.
I’ve witnessed this first hand. He is JG’s cousin and he basically got his start through him in that system of toxic coaches. Now rising through the ranks he seemed to get put in this group of legendary assholes. He has always been fair, has conversations with the parents, holds player evaluations on what is expected to play at the certain levels and gives feed back.
He Isn’t focused on winning at all cost like Anthony at SUSA who curses at 8 year olds and throws chairs. He focused on getting kids better.
He stated this statement in a parent meeting and it stuck with me now that my daughter plays for another club . “ I don’t care at this age about records I care about your child learning the game so wherever they go they will know how to play the game ”.
Both my daughters have played for Chris overall good guy needs to grow a back bone and stand up to this group full of TOXIC GIANTS .

Well by association he is just as guilty as the rest of turds on that list. He carries out the dirty work of RM and JG, that in itself is enough. Anytime you execute orders that goes against your core belief, then I fear you are just as corrupt as the system you work for. He has changed over the years I've known him and seems as if his head isn't into training kids anymore. Whatever his deal is, with Chris in the middle of that EM swamp, makes him accountable for his actions. While he comes across as if he has the kid's best interest for soccer, it becomes suspect when he really carries it out in the interest of RM and JG.

Remember soccer is soccer family is family it's tragic that he has to be his cousin, but remember he has to spend holidays with guy. Imagine getting your start in the soccer world rising through the ranks and then bam breaking apart from the people that you started with and gave you the opportunity he could be blinded. They conned Gary Sullivan into staying there . For his sake I hope he breaks away from the swamp, I did hear he was in talks with LISC. To me having been at EM for a long time Gary Chris and Matt are the core trainers of that place. RM can go he shouldn't coach especially younger ages stick to Hofstra. JG should just retire he doesn't develop a thing.

To me having been at EM for a long time Gary Chris and Matt are the core trainers of that place. RM can go he shouldn't coach especially younger ages stick to Hofstra. JG should just retire he doesn't develop a thing. He is definitely blinded, no longer doing what's right for the kids and is also about his pocket-cannot coach properly in the regular season-how about you come down to JG's place and let me do some private sessions with you and some of your ECRL teammates. Gary is another one that is no longer doing what is right for the kids in the sport. The club is all about spite-ing parents that stood up to them-Gary is conflicted in many of them are his private customers. It becomes a let me talk to RM and maybe he will let you back in the club. If a kid is talented enough, GS should never have to talk to anyone. But he also singing for his supper as well, so anything RM tells him to do he is obliged to follow through just like a pupper, even if it goes against whatever morals he has left. He has a career going for him, but being associated with these jokers-it'll only be a matter of time before he gets called and investigated. Publicity that might cause him to lose more than he thinks. He applied to LISC a couple years ago to become the Girl's DOC but got blindsided and lost. He would have made a mark there had he gotten the job. Matt is no longer core, Herve another old timer at EM, no longer core. They've been sidelined and relegated with the younger coaches running the racket for RM.

Agreed LISC Parent here. When we heard Chris Ortiz may be coming over to LISC from a friend of ours in the club we were excited.
We have always heard good things not everyone is going to like everyone we are pretty objective parents. Out of all the asking around and trying to figure out where to go LISC made the most sense for us but we heard great things about Chris. Everyone's feathers get ruffled everyone has had bad experiences with people whether at work family or their job.
One thing seems to be a reoccurring subject in Everyyyyy forum and that's JG ( Jaime Gonzalez) RM ( Ruari Mcguinness ) and JR Balzarini from Susa. Every forum we see even ones from years ago involve these three. The problem seems to be who the clubs hire as their "Directors" some are self appointed, but what qualifies you to be a DOC ( Director of Coaching) should that be based on your clubs atmosphere and performance? The amount of times I have heard we Love Gerry Lucy but Megan's head is up her ass, or Megan only cares about the first teams. We love Nir but JR is an Asshole. Gary Sullivan literally private trains every girl he coaches EVERY TRAINER DOES IT AND and then he gets lumped into oh Gary plays favorites or he only plays the players that lines his pockets . I have a friend still at Farmingdale that said to probably every parent we are only here because my younger daughter plays for Chris if he leaves most of the RL program leaves . God Knows they should have left when he cursed out the team at a scrimmage.
To me its just silly to lump people in this forum over a bad experience the heads are to blame not every program is perfect by any means we have problems here, but seeing the same people on every forum the 3 mentioned above that's the main problem. Gary Sullivan , Chris Ortiz, , Gary Book, Gerry Lucy , Tom Bowen, Richard Nutall, Matthew Lannon ,Chris Aloisi, Matt Pedicini, Eddi Hackett, Brooke Derosa all good Trainers/Coaches caught up in the the wicked webs of terrible dictators I mean directors.

Two Good Coaches CO & GS Blinded by the Slimy ways of JG & RM GET THEM OUT Chris Ortiz a good coach????? Stop. You’re embarrassing yourself. Based on what? Not on the ability to communicate or develop an individual or group. Dude is a sloppy excuse who’s constantly drunk at tournaments begging for scraps from cousin Jamie. Also smells horribly (not that it matters for coaching purposes…..but stand next to and get a whiff)

The biggest failure here though is that of the parents…..who have misguided expectations from what theses “coaches and trainers” should be.
Fact - these are no name / dime a dozen individuals…..who Coach youth soccer on Long Island. Repeat……Coach club soccer on Long Island. They do that here because they are not qualified or competent to do it anywhere else. Oh….some Coach at Farmingdale State or similar (yawn). Their only real responsibility should be to create a safe, inclusive environment for all where teamwork, collaboration and universal support is preached and demanded.
The more talented kids will naturally rise based on their own inherent ability and motivation to work on their skills (on their own). The coaches have NOTHING to do with that. (But they’ll sure charge you hundreds/ thousands to run drills you can find on any YouTube channel or book for free.
Stop expecting more - and as a consumer demand what should be in place or go somewhere where that’s the case. These trainers are “nobody” in the grand scheme. Flunkies, mostly former D3 players, nonsensical fools who are robbing you and playing on your delusional aspirations. Embarrassing for the parents who allow it every year at the expense of much more important things.

These coaches know all you have to do is tell them to join a ECNL team and they will go D1. So many of my daughters friends are committing to low level programs having spent extraordinary amount of money for poor coaching and even worse direction.

I have talked to several coaches and parents that are aware of the fact that the top people at ECNL are watching BOTN due to the fact that coaches and trainers in both SUSA and EM have been abusive toward players and parents. This comes from the top and the fact that Paul Riley and his cronies brought their abusive behavior to SUSA. There have been reports that kids are stressed due to the abusive atmosphere at both clubs. Let's not forget that Moussa Sy was best friends with the trainer named Komi who was arrested for having a sexual relationship with a 16 year old girl and defended him. Did everyone forget this? This behavior needs to stop. I would NEVER let my daughter play for SUSA!

yet...there are many, many, many more parents who would drink that Kool-Aid in a heartbeat and sell their soul (and their daughter) for the "honor" of saying they wear a SUSA kit...just go watch any younger age groups that are flooded with teams at SUSA, Alby, East Coast etc...and listen to the sheer idiocy on the sideline and it will be apparent why LI Soccer is not taken seriously off of LI

To all these people complaining about coaches being abusive and so on.
You folks witnessing this behavior have an obligation if you know its happening you must report it to Safesport.
It will get investigated if a report is made.

Susa has a reputation for being the best. However, I question their coaching techniques. Chris Colley is a horrible man. He yells and scream at girl ages 9-11. He coaches through intimation and threats and the worst part is the majority of parents allow this. He knows soccer but has no right being around that age group. He has kids too and just wait until someone treats his kids like how he treats the girls on his team. The fact of the matter is, if we was such a good soccer player, why is he coaching 9-11 year old girls on LI? He wasn't good enough in someone’s eye! Karma Chris!

The majority (not all) of these coaches are COMPLETE FAILURES in their professions, they're not young kids looking for a start in coaching. They're coaching YOUTH soccer players because the majority aren't willing to go through the struggles of being an assistant coach at the college level before you get a head coaching position. But, there's enough $$ in youth soccer it to make a decent living, especially having to live on LI. Has anyone taken a look at Gary S., does he look like a trainer let alone a former MLS player? The majority of these guys are a JOKE!

Chris Colley is the worst use coach ever. That is why he has numerous players leaving from his 2014 top team, 2013 top team, and 2012 top team. Parents are realizing their children do not need to go through this abuse. Is it OK to allow a man to talk to women that way? For some, who have no self respect, they think it is. They feel if he produces the top player then nothing else matters. For us, that is not the case. You can be a top player, but Chris Colley is the worst youth coach ever. Susa will continue to attract the top players, but at the end of the day you need to discover what is best for you. A top player who has no morals or a player who prefers to be guided by ethical and moral grassroots. If the latter is true, then have at it. . Coach under Chris Colley, and become a player with a horrible attitude and a superiority complex. If your goal is to raise someone who enjoys soccer and is not afraid to progress, then do not pick Chris Colley as your coach.

I know for a fact that no one from one of the teams you mentioned above is leaving for reasons you say so not sure how true it is for the other teams. Sounds like sour grapes because tryouts are here and your child might not be doing so well. Move on please to your next club, probably same number as number of years she’s been playing.

I think what was said above mirrors what a lot of people think.
The fact is, youth soccer is out of control. Susa is not the be all end all. I’ve seen their top teams play, I have seen girls crying as they are running down the field with coaches screaming at them. Parents screaming from the sidelines at them.
I’ve seen little girls with attitudes at 9-10 years old scream at their team mates and throw their hands up with ref calls. Being a great player doesn’t just mean having the technical skills, it means supporting your teammates, and being a leader on and off the field. The coaches need to curb the toxic behavior and not promote it.
A good coach Knows the Athlete and Values and Respects that Relationship and is aware of individual differences in athletes. That is an important ingredient in coaching excellence. Yelling, screaming and other emotional displays may work for some athletes but could have a devastating effect on others.
Individualising communication and motivation to specific athletes is vital to successful coaching. Paying attention to the athlete's emotions, strengths and weaknesses are the responsibility of a good coach. Understanding every athlete is different, and have different ways of receiving coaching information is key to good coaching, especially in a team game. I have not seen that with any SUSA coach with the exception of one.
Coaching by intimidation and threats is a recipe for disaster and teams will dissolve because if it. One by one the solid players leave and all that’s left are the ones with attitudes and superiority complexes.
