The entire, well almost the entire youth soccer community from coast to coast, and border to border have come to a standstill because of the huge fauilure of the Got Soccer digital infrastructure.
Got Soccer defending their position have made statements (
click here) that BOTN is not buying.
Yes, servers go down, hard drives fail, and other factors like DOS attacks can happen, and that is why backups are done at least daily of a website in case of situations like this...Got Soccer does not appear to have backed up that server. BOTN's server, as an example, is backed up twice daily and once around 3am every day.
If the data was safe and secure, a backup can be restored in a day or so max, depending on the complexity (usually in hours).
The fact that they hired a data recovery company means that they didn’t have backups and instead are trying to recover a failed hard drive. It’s very possible to get the data back, but as described, it’s a lot of manual work to do and notably it doesn’t always work out. I would not characterize the data as “safe and secure” if that’s actually what happened.
I’m sure they will be able to get the data back, but that is a huge mess from an infrastructure/hosting standpoint. An operation of their size should know way better.
