BOTN has been told by Jon Feinstein that the NY Surf FC will be merged into the East Coast Football Club and will now be one club.

BOTN is still waiting for more details as this merger rolls out, but we are told that all current Surf players will now be playing under the East Coast Football Club banner. The name of the combined club will be East Coast FC.

BOTN is working to get more information for you, and we'll report back, as we wait for the details to be finalized and the "ink" dries on the agreement.

As always, please feel free to post your thoughts and comments on this news.

Guessing they gave up the rights to use the Surf franchise name? i.e. not paying the franchise fee?

I’m not sure about that. I think to save face, and to save the players, they may still keep the surf name alive, however, in my opinion, it’s more to help their bottom line than help the players.

I also spoke to a parent who has a daughter who plays at surf and the parent told me they just got new uniforms again for 200+ dollars. This is youth soccer at its best on Long Island.

Money talks, so nobody will walk and the players and the parents follow along like sheep.

Maybe the parents of the girls at surf want to take a long hard and good look at the Long Island soccer club, just sayin’.

Yes and no. I think all along the change was going to be announced now to take full effect for the upcoming Fall season.

This cant be about money, it is about far superior, world class training. Isn't that what the line is? The annual name game changes continue, and people keep buying in and paying ridiculous amounts to be on a third or fourth team.

Isn’t East Coast also affiliated with Met Oval now too?

Let's first ask ourselves why the merge to begin with? Simple answer is that Surf continues to be an unsuccessful club. Merging with EC gives Surf, what? Facilities? ECNL? GA? What?

Clubs merge for financial reasons. Do you think any club that is a standalone wants to merge and have a boss?

Now to address my opinion on how this shakes out is that either this merge will blowup at some point, or EC will just do a SUSA ATM's and take all the players that decide to stick around.

Based on their location, both EM and especially LISC should be alternative and better choices for these Surf girls...GA and ECNL would be two reasons neither of which EC with Surf offers.

In Surf's defense, it is the main Surf club in CA that hasn't done much of anything for NY Surf except take their money and let them use their logo. Another club to reconsider moving on from. This merge, IMO, offers nothing to the Surf girls.

Wasn’t the west coast Surf supposed to deliver ECNL to them? Shame as it would be a much better option than EM.

I dont know about ECNL, but that does not mean it isn't so. I do know they promised the DA (remember the DA?) and they never helped to best of my knowledge. Anyway one looks at it, the mother club in CA did nothing for Surf, IMO.

I don't think it will effect either team unless they start playing ECNL or GA

The only way that will happen is if the girls leave and go to LISC or EM.....it isnt going to happen at east Coast in their youth soccer lifetime.

How can you be so certain Larry ? Why is it not possible that another team on LI gets ECNL ? And I don’t know the answer, that’s why I’m asking

It seems that SUSA is embedded, and Ruari also seems to be politically safe, and I dont see a third ECNL club on the Island because the players dont appear to be here....maybe you know something I don't and you will share with us all.

It's news because it doesn't make sense on a lot of levels to parents and players. Other than the patch and uniform, what changes? (And speaking of those $500 uniform packages, you going to wear that kit while playing for a different club name?)

You still need trainers. So assuming the existing Surf trainers stay put. You'll still needs fields, so assuming the Surf fields stay in play. The biggest question is: does Jon want to work for someone else, or will he be in charge over there? And if you're a Surf trainer, do you want to work for them and not Jon if he's not in charge?

It doesn't make sense, other than the Surf moneybag owner wants out and doesn't want to pay home office the fee which has gotten them nothing. Or - could he buy EC instead?

Larry, any thoughts?

I agree EC will never be in the ECNL, but their best move would be to go for GA on the girl's side. I don't see why EC couldn't join GA, and they would be as competitive as LISC is in GA and would be able to hold on to more girls that way.

East Coast has always discouraged parents and bad mouthed ECNL, up until now. They will be singing their praises if they get ECNL badge.

ECFC is not getting ECNL. You read it here first. First of all, they would need a solid girls program and clearly Surf does not provide that, do they?

Good thought, however that isn't going happen.
