When the Girls Academy League launched this past April, there was little telling what its first season would have in store.

Yet Oakwood SC, one of four New England-based clubs in the Northeast Conference, finds itself on solid footing as 2021 approaches and the second portion of its 10-month model comes into view.

Oakwood’s older teams, according to academy director Matt Cameron, got about 70 percent of their games in between league competition, friendlies and intra-squad scrimmages. Trainings weren’t really affected, meaning they accomplished much of what they set out to.
