You fail to discern the difference between a political decision and science. The ivy league schools do and say a lot of things that do not comport with objective science or fact in order to be politically correct and pander to various groups.

Actually. it's quite the opposite. Ivy League schools place emphasis on education over athletics. Your BCS (that’s Bowl Championship Series, for the uninformed) institutions value sports, and the money generated through those billion dollar TV and licensing deals, over education. As such, the Ivies are in a far greater position to base Covid-related decisions on actual science, because the loss of an athletic season is secondary. Now, imagine the Clemson’s, LSU’s, and Ohio State’s of the world cancelling their football seasons (and all the money that goes with it). They’d rather play in empty stadiums against teams from states where the infection numbers are spiking. It’s those schools, rather that the Ivies, that likely won’t comport with objective science or fact in order to pander to the almighty dollar.

Well......the Big 10 just announced they’re eliminating non conference games in all sports and are prepared to cancel the entire fall. Again........HS sports likely a no go. Till we meet again in 2021.......

Yes, agreed. And understand that this was completely avoidable. This was managed, and continues to be managed, as if the US was a 3rd world country. Go back to March - get everyone to isolate for 60-75 days, wear masks, distance, wash hands and this thing would have been under control by now and there very likely would have been a good slate of sports later this summer and in the fall. A complete failure of leadership.

For college football, the cancellation of non-conference contests equates to roughly 3 games...out of 12. Those games were likely not nationally televised games, so no real loss of revenue there. It's a start, i suppose. However, do not take this concession by the Big 10 as some grand gesture to put health above profit. Again, they are "prepared" to cancel, as you mention. There is a big difference between being prepared to do something and actually doing it.

Anyway, this is a soccer forum, so enough talk of American football. I am rooting for all of our kids to get back to playing this sport as soon as safely possible.

1. All Big 10 games are televised and are huge payouts to the non conference teams
2. This cancellation includes soccer
3. Preparing means it’s a reality requiring planning - and unless there’s a big turnaround in the next 3-4 weeks, a very real outcome
4. And this is the big point here, the cut of revenue to the non Big 10 school is a giant leap towards them eliminating lesser revenue generating sports. AKA....futbol

As it looks now the only failure was the country of origin China , which did not disclose info about the virus to the rest of the world.

Well, call it a coincidence or call yourself mindlessly dumb, but the one state / region that committed to a hard and extended lockdown (despite the petty whining by the simpletons, “Karen’s” demanding we reopen) is NY. And as a result, there’s incredibly low transmission and the health system is not under duress. A complete turnaround.

Your reference to China is very orange faced, if not blindly silly. MAYBE YOU SHOULD POST LIKE THIS TO MAKE YOUR POINT!!!!!! Maybe call it the Kong Flu? If the rest of the larger states took the same approach as NY, this current status could have been avoided. And as it pertains to the interest of those on this board, youth athletics would be much closer to starting. Unfortunately, now that appears very unlikely at the HS level until next spring. Look at Texas, they’re about to cancel their HS football season. That says it all

From yesterday:

Curran: Nassau residents 'doing the impossible'

Nassau County Executive Lauran Curran said Thursday that one more person had died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, after two straight days of no fatalities,

She said the infection rate in Nassau is .8% with 42 people out of 538 testing positive, bringing the county’s total to 42,162.

Curran said three months ago there were 1,952 patients in the hospital with the virus and two months ago there were 867.

Today, she said, there are 42 in the hospital.

She praised residents for “doing the impossible,” adding that Nassau went from having one of the highest infection rates in the country to having one of the lowest.

“We’re using common sense,” she said. “We know the masks work, we know the social distancing works.”

Curran said her Friday virus briefing would be from the Roosevelt Field Mall, which will be reopening under Phase 4 of the governor’s order. — NEWSDAY STAFF

When anyone talks with logic the Trumpites say you are clueless. Just like Trump you avoid reality. When the Trump administration was told about this in early February they totally ignored the medical communities recommendations. Trump was more concerned with his re-election and keeping his big rallies going. No concern, no interest, no worries just keep plowing forward. The sad fact is 50% of the deaths so far could have prevented if he took action in February. The current surge in the South & West is a result of the President convincing those RED State/ Republican governors this is all lies from the Democrats and the media. Today, it is clear he is done with the pandemic and has no empathy for those he put in there current situation. November is here and the citizens will give him there thoughts about his leadership with the Trumpites will continue to say we have no clue.

Why is it the end of the world if there is no soccer in the fall? Let's see how much these kids like soccer when nobody is driving them to practice and games. The ones who like soccer will find a way to play pickup games without coaches and might even become better players as a result.

I will concede this is terrible for older teens who want to be recruited.

Yes, we want all our children back at school and yes, we would love to see them back on the sports field playing as well but it looks like that will not happen because of the Trump administration inaction and denial of this pandemic. Just listening to this clown back in March when he said it will disappear with the warm weather like the flu. Then telling states we need to reopen regardless who dies because of the economy. Just a bad leader who thinks of himself. And to those sad RED/REPUBLICAN Governors who know look like complete idiots with all there states spiking with Arizona giving higher spike numbers than NY at it’s worst. Can you believe that with officials saying it’s because of the testing. The end result of neglect and the Trump administration will effect us all here in the NY/NJ/CT/PA area with no school sports this fall and maybe in the Spring. Just too many stupid people who refuse to wear a mask. So when do you think games will start up again? Not anytime soon you could than Trump a and his faithful Trumpites for that. Cuomo & Murphy should be having the last laugh right now at the South and Western state Governors who slammed them for taking their time and listening to the medical community instead of Trump and the clowns her surrounds himself with. It they are both above those other foolish Governors. All those other states who saw NY/NJ people as leper’s and chased away people with those license plates and here we are today keeping those other states (especially Florida) out of this area. There will be no high school soccer as we know it this fall. This is not on the liberal media, liberal democrats, liberal governors. Trump takes ownership of this!

All a lockdown does is let the hospitals catch up. Once the flood gates open positive tests will go up. this virus is here to stay its going to be a yo yo until well in to 2022

College soccer and other sports are cancelling their fall programs more and more each day. Obviously due to the surge. Other colleges will follow. It's sad to say but school and youth soccer will do the same for this fall. Soccer hopefully returns in March 2021. That's if a second wave doesn't arrive.

Disagree with this - for the NYC Metropolitan area and most of Northeast. Teams are starting practice already. The virus cases are very, very low here at this point and if that stays the same then I think there will be a Fall season for Clubs. [Not sure about HS soccer, as there are a lot of other political factors there]. Now the travel to other regions or areas with high infection rates won't happen, so no Florida Disney trips, but think we will be just fine here for the Fall.

Now, if there is a recurrence here in late-Fall/Winter, who knows what will happen for the Spring. But I think we will be good to go - with social distancing, parents wearing masks, etc - for the Fall.

There may have Club teams practicing this fall but will not be any out of State college showcases this fall/winter. No way will teams & colleges travel to these highly Infected states for the remainder of this year. Trump ruined it for all and we will ruin it for him in November. Can’t wait!

The major hangup is going to be schools refusing to let clubs use their fields.

Parents wearing masks on the sidelines is a very good thing. Let's make that a permanent FIFA rule. Has to be a very thick/heavy mask that does not allow any sounds out (don't really care about any droplets).

Recruiting budgets have been slashed to zero in order to cover other gaps, so not only will there likely not be any showcases (where school reps show up), but colleges not sending reps to any location for the next 12 months

That is not substantiated it’s just someone’s opinion. Unfactual. My daughter has been in touch with coaches that have told her they hope to be able to have one day clinics at their respective schools this fall and the spring schedule to attend showcases are up in the air at this point but hope to attend. Never once did any of these coaches mention cost restraints but rather waiting to here more definitive information. Anyone who says something about this subject matter with certainty has no clue what is ahead.

Actually, college coaches will be going to showcases, however, these will all be very local and one-day events within driving distance. You are correct that due to budget/health concerns they will not be flying or staying at hotels. I also don't think there are many teams flying to Disney for a showcase.
