The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) is on course, when will organized soccer reboot?

See below for some key upcoming dates for the state association’s return-to-play timeline:

July 6 is the date to start training for all areas in at least Phase 3 and that should entail all of New York State by then. US Soccer guidelines allow for small group training with a maximum of nine players and one coach who maintain social distancing.

On July 27, full team training is allowed but still maintain social distancing. Allow three weeks for coronavirus tracking purposes.

August 17 is the reboot date for games while considering only local and single day competitions. Large events would have to be approved by the local government.

“After a tumultuous spring that has seen over 25,000 New Yorkers die from the virus, we are very happy that the number of illnesses and deaths here have decreased substantially and allow us to restart organized soccer,” commented ENYYSA President Richard Christiano.

“We’re very excited that kids will be able to be kids once again in enjoying the world’s most popular sport.”

Of course, for any organized soccer to be played from July 6 on is dependent on the necessary field permits being issued. The dates above that Eastern New York leagues, clubs and teams will be following adhere to the guidelines of both New York State and US Soccer.

I hate to say it, but doesn’t this seem premature and optimistic in light of the absolute explosion of covid cases across the country? NYS is bound to see cases rise again due to out-of-state visitors.

It's not number cases but hospitalizations and death cases that are important - those are NOT increasing dramatically - though those stats are typically lag..
It's very different dynamic in the states that see rise now vs. NY/NJ/CT where testing was no where on the same scale if it is now...

Besides interstate travel is a small fraction of pre-covid era and won't pick anytime soon.

We need to start somewhere and adjust if necessary.

Just want to put this question out there because I truly don’t know if what is being asked of me is reasonable and our family like many has been subject to pay cuts, etc due to COVID so we don’t have $$ to throw away at this time.
Local club travel registration cost for fall 2019/Spring 2020 was $360. Obviously spring season was cancelled, but the club only offered a $50 credit because they claimed they needed to cover other expenses, league fees (Long Island Junior), etc.
Now registration is open for Fall 2020/Spring 2021. The club is asking for the full registration fee upfront minus the $50 credit so total $310. They are not providing any guarantee that we will receive any of this $$ back if seasons are cancelled. Multiply these numbers by 2 because I have two children playing.
I feel stupid blindly handing over money again, but I also don’t want my children to miss out. Just looking for some feedback, I’m one of those people who just usually goes with the flow and follows the rules but something about this seems off to me. Thanks for any input!

Your concerns are justified. NYS has been slow to open up and we are, despite many missteps, the model for the nation. That being said, yes, it's all premature. It's all rather silly to be honest. Our response nationwide, and even statewide has been pitiful in comparison to other nations.

We are still in the 1st wave. People don't realize that we've already had 1 shut down. There will be at least 1 more, if not 2.

It would be wiser to just hold off and wait it out until there's a better treatment plan that doesn't require ICU hospitalizations and intubation. As well as the hope for a viable vaccine.

But this is America, we're gonna make the mistakes bigger and badder than every other nation. That's how we roll.

Badly quoting Winston Churchill: " The United States will always do the right thing, after having tried every other alternative".

The model for the nation had a steepest curve, the highest rates of infection, hospitalization, death ratios in the WORLD by a WIDE margin (check John Hopkins stats) - yes - we are going to teach them...
