I have been looking into all the money you nice paid for services and events you didn't get, here is why you ain't gonna get it, from anywhere!!

Try and follow this.....

You paid at some point to register your child for league play, or to play in a tournament and neither happened. You want your money back, and I agree. However, here are the two reasons why you will either get only a credit or bupkis.

REASON #1...Your club took your money and spent it. They sent it to the leagues or to the tournaments to pay for registrations, so accordingly you club is saying ,"we don't have the money, we spent it."

Giving the club the benefit of the doubt that the money is gone from their bank account, they are broke. So, in order for your club to give you back the money they no longer have, they have to go the tournaments, or league(s) (LIJSL, NYCSL, or EDP) and have them return the money. That is not going to happen. Why? Because the leagues are saying they spent the money, and they don't have it. The best you will see is anything from a full (doubtful) to a partial credit.

REASON #2...It appears that when you folks signed or clicked REGISTER to complete your league or tournament registration, you agreed to all the terms and conditions. One of those conditions you agreed to was, and I'm paraphrasing, is that in the event of cancellation there will be no refunds or credit. (How many times have I written to tell you folks to read what you're signing?)

So, where does that leave you? That is a question only you can answer.

Now to take things a bit further, you are now being asked to pay for the Fall season and/or Summer or Fall tournaments. What if there is no Fall season, or what is also most likely for those of us on Long Island, no field availability because it seems pretty unanimous that schools, if they open, are not going to issue permits for the use of their facilities.

Speaking with EDP, if there is a Fall season, EDP feels they have identified fields, but they are in New Jersey, with most in the Central and Southern part of the state. That means that all or most all of the Long Island based EDP teams will be playing all their games as away games.

CAUTION: Signing up for the Fall season should it not be able to be played will mean no cash, and maybe no credit refunds again. This is clearly a cluster [****], and I have no idea what to tell you, other than if it were me, I would take a wait and see look at how things progress, and start taking a look starting mid July, but that is me, as I don't see a clear path to youth sports this Summer or in the Fall locally.

I have given you both fact and opinion, I believe 99.9% of you will not see any cash, or at best pennies on your dollar, which is evidently what you agreed to when you clicked the REGISTER button. It's your call.

There was definitely nothing about cancellations in the player acceptance package.

If you are worried about the money and want it back if there are no games this fall then definitely don't sign up and give any team your money. Teams might give some discount but they are not going to fire all of their coaches so they can pay back the money to everyone.

Most clubs will do the caring thing at this time and give a reasonable credit. SUSA decided to do the opposite and make money out of this crisis.

SO you think that these for profit clubs will take a loss for the good of the people in the club. I think not.
Maybe you expect food stores and other stores to give away their product for the good of the people too.

I'm surprised that only one club gave cash refunds (Ronkonkoma).

Clubs must issue refunds for players that don’t plan to return for the next season. I’m filing a small claim to try and get my money back.

Terrible analogy.

Yes, that didn’t even qualify as an analogy. I would expect stores to provide me with a product if I paid for it. If they are unable to provide that product, then I am due a refund. Case closed.

Going to any of these types of training firms is a total waste of money and time to rebuild local clubs. Not all in a perfect world but if you get a strong team with a strong coach that takes you to tournaments outside of Long Island for show casing and builds strong character in you that will go much further.

I just heard from one of my baseball sources that the Storm Baseball Academy was fined $10,000 for holding unauthorized baseball group workouts.
