April 23, 2020
Dear Club Leadership, Coaches and Team Managers,
As we noted last week in our 2020 Tournament Schedule Update, our return to competitive youth soccer will depend on multiple approvals by health, local and state officials. The same rings true for our return to EDP League play.
As always, our first and highest priority is the health and safety of players, referees, spectators, club officials and event staff. We share your eagerness to return to the field and will be ready to do so when the time comes.
In accordance with US Youth Soccer’s programming and advisory notice, issued on April 15, 2020, EDP Soccer is delaying the start of the league season until at least May 15. With that date in mind, you can CLICK HERE to view a few scheduling options, which are being considered based on when it is safe to resume League play.
You can also see our current tournament schedule by CLICKING HERE.
As part of our Register with Confidence initiative, EDP Soccer is undertaking a comprehensive review of best new health and safety practices, all of which are designed to put safety first and set a new standard of event management. Below is an initial list of protocols we will implement at our upcoming events:
- Maintain “social distancing” throughout the venue.
- Anyone with symptoms is asked not to attend activities.
- All individuals are urged to sanitize their hands before, during and after activities.
- Prohibit avoidable contact (i.e. handshakes, “high fives”, etc.).
- Remind players and spectators to avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with hands.
- Players are not advised to share water bottles, drinks or food.
In the coming days and weeks, EDP Soccer will be working with various health officials to establish additional health and safety protocols for both League and Tournament play.
Your feedback is extremely important and will play a significant role in shaping our leagues and tournaments now more than ever. As we get closer to the return-to-play date, we will distribute a survey to collect your feedback to help us deliver solutions that best fit your needs.
Like most of you, we will be monitoring governmental guidance on a daily basis and look forward to getting onto the fields as soon as we can. In the meantime, please stay safe and healthy.
Sincerely,
Jen Marcella, Executive Director of Leagues, EDP Soccer
Don Rawson, Executive Director of Tournaments and Facilities, EDP Soccer

IMO, the Spring season needs to be officially closed by LIJSL, NYCSL, & EDP and all registration and other monies paid to these leagues by clubs and teams refunded without any further delay. To think that EDP will start the season on May 15th tells me someone over there isn't facing the harsh reality.

It started out as MAPS, MAPS/MSSL, then EDP, but bringing in money always has been the goal of this organization's founders. Most, if not all, "refunds" are credits to attend another tournament. No way teams will get league registration fees back; they'll be credited to next season's. That's how they work.

Their ambitions is money not elite level. The sad things is if they where smarter they would work towards becoming the top league around and also make money in the process.

it is only matter of time before clubs and leagues start getting bashed for their refund policy. This league kept it all.... this club only gave back 50%.... my club gave back 90%.... your club gave back 70%.....let the games begin!!

What people don’t get is that the majority of these leagues front load the money to all their employees and contractual agreements like advertisement ... Larry are you giving any of these leagues their money back for promoting their leagues and clubs now that they don’t have a season? Should they ask all their employees to give the league the Money back to give it back to the parents. Covid 19 elected everyone’s pockets. If a parent loses a couple of hundred bucks it’s not the end of the world! How many employees does Gary Grossman have and kept employed?

No leagues advertise here. No one should have to pay for services not provided. That is my opinion.
I also take exception that a couple of bucks doesn’t mean much to the parents. How do you know how much money somebody has and what they may need. That was a callous and elitist comment.

Larry, you’re just as bad assuming people don’t want to have a season and should be refunded ASAP. That’s elitist BS in full effect, thinking you know what’s best for everyone else. Most people on this site would gladly give up their $150 spring registration in exchange for a season.

There is no season except for who thinks it’s a good to be hanging out on the sideline while your kids is fighting for the ball or are one who believes this is all a hoax?

CJSL posted this on IG and FB today as well as emailed it out to all their clubs.
Dear Clubs,
Thank you for attending our 2nd club video conference held on Wednesday, April 22nd. It is always a pleasure to see everyone.
Just to reiterate what we discussed: Based on CDC recommendation and NYC Guidelines on Covid-19 of extending the quarantine past May, the CJSL will unfortunately be cancelling the Spring 2020 season. All clubs will have their team registrations refunded, less a $25 administrative fee. The refunds will be issued within the next few days.
Hoping that restrictions will be lifted by June, the league will look to organize some 1 day tournaments that would tentatively take place in July 18/19, 25/26 and August 8/9 15/16 weekends. More details to follow as we get closer to June.
At this point, it looks like our June AGM will be postponed to late August. We are looking for nominations and elections to be held at that AGM. Any interested member should email Steve Batalas from Eleftheria (batalassteven@gmail.com who is overseeing this process.
Team and Player Registration will be opening up in June on GotSport and more details on that process will be forthcoming as GotSport sets up the system for us.
CJSL also made a generous donation to NYC Loves Coffee of $1000 to be donated to Elmhurst Hospital in Queens. In addition, Jean Marc Perez from Manahattan Kickers is donating several bottles of Hand Sanitizers to our clubs that we will distribute on his behalf.
All the best and stay safe, Ron Restrepo and the Board.

EDP is all about the money. There March tournament was cancelled due to the virus. Received an email from EDP saying that no money will be refunded. They are keeping $500 for expenses for the tournament and the other $550 will be used for a credit for any upcoming EDP tournament. This is total BS. How do you keep $500 ???? There are a ton of people out of work right now. Im sure parents could use there money back they paid for there kids to play. What kind of expenses do you have if the tournament wasn't even played? Don't they have insurance? I'm very disappointed in EDP. Register with confidence!!! That's funny!!!

Refund Policy and Guarantees Regarding Tournaments, Showcases and Events
Once a team is accepted for a tournament, showcase or other event, the stated policy is that no refunds of entry fees will be made to teams withdrawing following such acceptance. This policy appears in the Application Information accessed online from each event’s Homepage.
Should a team not be scheduled to play in a tournament, showcase or other event, full refund of any payments processed will be made within ten days following the event date. (Reasons for not being placed on a schedule may include, as examples, an age group bracket not being formed due to insufficient registrations at that level, or a team being placed on a waiting list.)
Should an event be cancelled, fully or partially, due to uncontrollable factors or “Acts of God” (such as extreme weather or unplayable fields) after the schedule is released, a partial refund or credit may be provided by the Tournament Committee for such event. The decision of the Tournament Committee in such instances is final. Notice of such decision will be provided teams within six days after the tournament date, through the communication channels established by the online registration.

Now you understand how EDP and its owners work. As long as clubs and teams continue to support EDP EDP will continue to maintain making money its primary focus.

Alby keeping the money Susa keeping the money EM ? Alby keeping the money? Susa keeping the money? EM ? Susa already sending out bills to the Fury converts. Paul not only not refunding, sending out requests for past due payments. Did ECNL refund money? No. It's up to the individual clubs, until tournaments are cancelled and those monies are refunded by the leagues.

Alby keeping the money Susa keeping the money EM ? Alby keeping the money? Susa keeping the money? EM ? Some lessons to be learned going forward. 1, pay your fees in smaller installments. I have 3 kids in higher level Lax and soccer. I always made sure to be upfront with clubs that i could only pay by smaller installments. Each one agreed and it was never an issue. So at his point rather than being out 75% of the fees it is 25%. No club has yet to come for the remaining balance 2.Be willing to say no to your club, few clubs are will to risk at bad reputation at this time. 3. The higher the fees the more leverage you have, use it 4. If you arranged an installment plan, assume others have also, clubs are all the same. The volume of players they need to sustain themselves is high so they do negotiate with fees and payments.

Riley was going to go after people who cancelled their cards.

Sounds great in theory but if you haven't paid as much as your teammates in total you can kiss your roster spot goodbye. These organizations aren't going to give you a break and not others. Now if you want to quit, then yes the above strategy has you leave with more money in your pocket
