Authored by SUSA and reprinted by BOTN
SUSA has entered into an agreement for the acquisition of FC Fury and Paul Riley Soccer
Schools while also succeeding Paul Riley as the new director of coaching for the Albertson
Soccer Club. Together we will provide programming in NASSAU and SUFFOLK Counties
unparalleled by any other Long Island organization or club for BOYS and GIRLS of all ages and
ability levels. With SUSA set to open its new state of the art outdoor facility in Islip in the months
ahead, SUSA will offer the best facilities on Long Island and be the destination for Long Island’s
soccer players in both NASSAU and SUFFOLK Counties.
“ We recognize the significant achievements that Paul Riley has made as a pioneer of Long
Island soccer and grateful for his support for our vision. We welcome the FC Fury players to our
SUSA family and are very excited about our next chapter together. There are no limitations to
what we can achieve together. Flavio Ferri has joined our SUSA family and will continue his
role as Director of Coaching to oversee programming at Albertson Soccer Club. Flavio offers
years of playing and coaching experience and we are so happy to have him in the Club.
Through our agreement with Albertson Soccer Club we will continue a tradition of the highest
quality training and coaching services to our affiliated Albertson Soccer Club members. ”
Moussa Sy, Co-President of SUSA Soccer Training.
“I look forward to providing advisory support to SUSA in college recruiting, the pathway to
professional soccer, and developing nationally competitive players. SUSA has the resources
and talent to be the face of Long Island soccer and I am thrilled for their future. I am always
striving to provide the optimal environment for our players to develop and move to the next
level. The scattering of top players and talent is an obstacle to player development. There will
be no other logical choice for a player that wants to compete at youth soccer’s elite level. With
the fragmented youth soccer market on Long Island, this collaboration is one that puts the
interest of all of our players first.” - Paul Riley, NC Courage Head Coach.
Our vision is simple. Unify Long Island soccer families and professionals. Provide the best
indoor and outdoor facilities in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Offer the best college showcase
and nationally competitive league platforms. Value players as people first and foremost. If you
are looking for an experience in soccer that is unparalleled, SUSA is your home.
WANT TO PLAY IN COLLEGE AND PLAY WITH & AGAINST THE BEST IN THE USA?
Our BOYS and GIRLS programs offer the best college showcasing opportunities in the United
States through league and event play in Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) and Elite Clubs
Regional League (ECRL). Week in and out our players compete against the best players in the
Country and in front of scores of college coaches. There is no better platform to showcase for
college or compete than the ECNL and ECRL.
WANT TO PLAY COMPETITIVE SOCCER WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO ADVANCE?
SUSA also offers programming on a local and regionally competitive basis, through the National
Premier League, EDP Soccer league, and local league platforms. Players who excel have the
opportunity to move up within the club system

Oh I hope they did not pay any real money for that operation. They could have picked up all of those players for free over the next 1-2 seasons.

So many clueless folks out there. Despite your hatred for “slick” no other person in the Ny area has the resume and connections to get your girls where they want to be. Say what you want about him, the guy got results. Not saying he’s a Saint, and i know he’s gotten rich from youth sports but who are these other clubs to judge? Everyone is out for your money.

Well, then you should feel good now knowing that Slick will be a Technical Director; he will be concentrating on college placement and event initiates. He is being used for college contacts……Riley will not be doing any training, nor does he have interaction with the players as a coach or trainer.

100% accurate Larry. He’s kind of an absentee landlord anyways but who am i to judge a guy making a living. Youth sports is full of snakes, i just never understood the hatred for a guy who has gotten results, when others are doing the same with absolutely nothing to show for it.

It’s too bad if it’s true he is not doing any training or any interaction with these teams and players. If that is the case how will he be helpful as a conduit for colleges? We all know he has little business sense but when it comes to soccer there is no one who has his experience and ability to teach the sport to young players. He has had an amazing run as a professional coach and the drills and coaching is exactly what these players need. I have no doubt these -layers would pay more attention to him on the field and they would work harder during training with him on the pitch teaching players what it takes to get to the next level. There is no one right now on SUSA who has his resume or experience about the next level of college or beyond. Would be a shame if SUSA does not use that experience. BTW, if there is no interaction with teams and players, exactly what will he be saying to these colleges about these players?

What makes you think that Riley wants to train or interact with these teams? Riley’s time on Long Island has run its course and you need to except that. His interest is in the professional game and from what I’m told college coaches take his phone calls and so him being in the position that he is in with SUSA right now is advantageous to the players. To be redundant, Riley will have no interaction coaching or training any of the players.

Larry i have a few questions in regards to this. First why would Susa even want to make this type of move when Alby was folding anyway? Seem like a waste of Money. Second dont you think most players will go to EM since they both have ECNL and its closer? Lastly is susa that much about the money that they needed to buy Alby and continue to Pay Paul?

It’s a great move by SUSA. Why battle Paul every year for players and for ECNL or DA status. Just buy him out, have direct access to all his best players, but also keep him on board as an advisor and ally when you need to a National voice. As much as we hate to admit it, Paul Riley has been NWSL coach of the year, coaches the 2x Champion NC Courage, has direct access to National team players, and is well respected outside Long Island. Our girls won’t be paying anything extra because of this deal. Our teams should get better and be more competitive across the board. I am looking forward to my daughter meeting Paul Riley.

There are definitely some risks for SUSA, but I'm sure they have done some calculations of how many players they'll be able to keep (need to keep) to make this work. We also don't know how much (if anything) they paid for the purchase, and what PR's contract terms ($ and time) are. It might very well be just a face-saving way out they offered PR in order to pay very little in the whole transaction.

How will all this affect LISC? First with their former DA players. Second, the remaining levels.

That is not going to happen....I do not see LISC giving up their brand. The combination of SUSA and Albertson could not have been greeted with glee at EMSC. While I cant share at this time why or what, but SUSA and EM will clash at certain points in the not to distant future....

SUSA could now host the biggest tournament in this area. It will be the only one that matters. Maybe at the end of this summer. With so many tourneys canceled, it would be a very popular move.

Larry, I agree with you because that’s the nature and history of EMSC, they just never act proactive. They are just content having ECNL and never look to better the club. This move by SUSA is a game changer because the one thing about SUSA is they are thinking forward and re constantly looking to get better either with there fields or as what happened yesterday they brought in a better boys program than what they had and now on the girls side instead of just having numbers show up at tryouts and picking girls based on pay to play they will now be able to pick competitive teams at every age group. If they can now attract the best players on LI that is a big deal and puts EMSC in the rear view mirror. SUSA has now potentially become the club of choice on LI. They have a sound business model so let’s see if they can match that up with making the correct soccer decisions on the pitch.

How does Riley remain in NC, not be around players, and be able to recommend them to a college if he hasn't seen them play? He didn't do any of that the past year. More of an on paper thing so his three loyal followers know "he's around". Susa's recruiting process has been way better.

Susa is not looking to get better. They are looking to grow and increase their profits. They will have numerous teams in each age group, with kids getting lost in the shuffle. The top team in each age group will be the focus.
