Which inherently will displace a lot of kids from their current teams. It will be a replay of the birth year conversion saga X 10. And even if there is a full green light given on April 30 (highly highly highly unlikely) games would still be several weeks away. An entire set of new protocol needs to be implemented BEFORE any sanctioned games take place. This includes things like taking temperature of kids (as well as coaches and refs) before games and practices (elevated temperature means you don’t play), educating refs and trainers on policies, etc, etc. this will be a way of life on and off the field until either a vaccine is created or much more sophisticated testing takes place (testing who is immune as much as who is infected)

You can pack away the cleats and balls for a few more months. Nothing happening for a while. Keep fingers crossed for high school season but even that is no better than 50 / 50

Thank you Mr Sunshine. The media is driving the pandemic. Yes it’s contiguous so is the flu. The cure can’t be worse than the cure. People are losing jobs, houses and more. End of April lift some restrictions people need to get back to work. Kids will go to school in the fall and yes there will be sports 100%. Look at Sweden flatten the curve without all these restrictions.

Yes, and the Spanish Influenza was "just another flu" as well. That worldwide pandemic infected about 500 million and killed 675,000 Americans. Send everyone back to work and school before it's safe and you will see just what America suffered through in 1918. Entire families catching it and all dying! Don't be foolish and play with your life and that of your family and friends. Trust the science out there. This is very real and very scary!

Here's the problem. People say "trust the science", but they have no clue what that actually means. THERE IS NO SCIENCE ON THIS YET. The scientists dont know squat about this. They modeled at least 100-200k deaths, in a best case scenario (with perfect social distancing). They are now saying they hope no more than 60k deaths. That dont know squat and morons saying "we are following the data" or "we are following the science" either (a) are morons, (b) want to appear to be smarter than they are, (c) are intentionally being misleading or (d) are too stupid they are being used to propagate crap.

In the LI soccer community alone there are a handful or more deaths. And that's just the ones that have been reported. There is a lot of bad news out there. Everyone will know someone and probably a few that lose their life to this "flu" as you call it. I personally never knew anyone that died from the flu. Maybe I am the exception

Bigger problem is people comparing this to the flu. The flu does not infect, contaminate, spread, or kill at the speed and lethal rate COVID does. It’s like saying Michael Jordan and Rusty Staub are both athletes.

You are listening to politicians and not the science and medical people. The science and medical people are fully transparent as to what they know and don't know. We will never get a handle on this until we know more and halt the spread of the disease. Until then I trust in science, not in politicians.

You missed the point. The SCIENTISTS dont know anything yet. There isnt enough data to form any conclusions. Everyone is guessing.

No, I think you missed the point. The scientists are the ones who will discover everything about this disease, not the politicians. They don't know as much because it is a new disease to mankind, hence the title "novel coronavirus". That being said there is plenty they have learned and this isn't just another flu. Had the politicians reacted when they should have we would be in a better place then we are now.

....Especially trump with his impulsive comments. The point is until we really know more, we need to be very cautious and can’t start up soccer, YOUTH soccer. It’s just a beautiful game not LIFE. Starting back up without facts, will END life.

And Connecticut doesn’t have it near as bad as New York State let alone nyc and LI , the epicenter. If Ct is saying the earliest school will reopen is 5/20, how in the world should we be playing youth soccer here before then, let alone return to school before then.

Please dont "think". You have proven yourself to be incapable of sentient thought. Do you think the "politicians" devised the UW Corona virus model that projected a baseline of 100-200K deaths? They havent even concluded what the freaking symptoms are. Why? Because now they believe there are multiple strains. The scientists dont and wont know anything for quite some time. There wont be a vaccine for a long time. Hopefully the virologists and researchers are able to develop some effective therapeutics.

My point is that you cant rely on the scientist to determine when the economy should be taken into considerations, bc the medical professionals are ALWAYS going to be extremely conservative, bc THEY DONT KNOW. There is a knowledge gap.

Exactly. No way possible to have everything needed in place to get started. One thing that will be needed is a health system to support any league or activities. Injuries happen.........and there’s no way the system will be prepared to manage these “frivolous” occurrences for months. This is beyond the huge task of addressing the main issue; how do you stop the spread during athletic activities, where competitors are breathing, sweating, spitting in close proximity. Plans need to be focused on how to manage the virus spread day to day and how to get kids in back to school safely in September. Without a vaccine, spread and contamination will continue- it’s just a question of how fast (simply put, the current extreme lockdown measures are only focused on - slowing - not stopping. Stopping is impossible at this point in time. It’s far from a certainty that HS sports start up in September

You can’t be serious. Trump wanted to reopen the economy now. Wiser heads prevailed and shot him down. There was universal disdain for that short sighted idea

There's not going to be any soccer this Sping. No games, no practices. It's early April and at best, they're thinking of opening certain businesses starting in early May. Schools won't be opening maybe....maybe....until June.

So, with all this time on your hands from not taking your kids to training...day or evening, I will give you the best shows on Netflix to start binging. You're welcome.

Ozark
Money Heist
Peaky Blinders
Mindhunter
Big Mouth
The Punisher

I think that regrettably it may be difficult to even mount some type of fall season with the same participation level we had before this world changed. There are many many people, Players, Coaches, Referees, Trainers, and Parents with pre existing conditions as simple as Asthma. If as Public Health officials expect there is another surge of the Covid 19 virus in the fall, any type of group activity like a soccer league would not be a good idea.

Regardless of government restrictions I’m not so sure people will go back to normal behavior until they know they will be safe. I would think that by the Spring of 2021 they will have a vaccine if not sooner and that will make a huge difference in public behavior.

This is all opinion and conjecture. Read it with a grain or two of salt:

The heavily-circulating rumor that the U.S. Soccer Federation is planning to terminate the entire U.S. Soccer Development Academy is causing a lot of panic and uncertainty in an already turbulent period.

A Federation source says theseason is “likely” to be canceled soon due to the repercussions of the COVID-19 crisis, though no announcements are imminent over Easter weekend. The DA’s long-term fate? That appears to be up in the air at the moment.

So to be clear, we are not reporting this as fact, but it is a very hot rumor that gets the mind turning.

Even if it proves to just be the end of the 2019-20 season, should a full shutdown be on the table at all, taking advantage of this extensive layoff during the global pandemic of COVID-19 has actually opened up an opportunity to shutter the leagues in the absolutely least disruptive way possible.

Why would they be considering such a drastic move? If true, some of the factors are sure to be:

The Girls DA has never taken hold as the nation’s most elite league, and has recently been losing very strong clubs back to ECNL. Having talent split between two leagues is definitely inhibiting development of the most elite players, and there is no solution in sight for getting the best players and clubs in the same environments anytime soon. This would solve that problem overnight.

The Boys DA has become more of a story of Major League Soccer run, cost-free academies and then the best of the rest for years. While the top boys’ talent plays in the DA if there’s a club near their homes, every year U.S. Soccer makes some type of adjustments to the competition structure and schedule. And MLS clubs have long been rumored to be on the verge of staging a break-a-away league all their own anyway.

Cost – U.S. Soccer spends a around $9 Million on the DA’s per year, and gets little but grief for most of their investments. With an all new management team at the top of the Federation, and the very real likelihood of an 8-figure financial settlement on the way with the U.S. Women’s National Team, cutting bait now would remove a lot of distractions and sure up what may become much-needed cash in the coming years, before the expected windfalls of the 2026 World Cup.

Equality – Reference the issues with the Girls DA lagging far behind the boys’ version in their efforts to consolidate talent. These are modern times, and U.S. Soccer has struggled greatly in the court of public opinion over their treatment of the women’s game. I cannot imagine a world where U.S. Soccer could shut down the Girls DA and not do the same with the Boys. It has to be all or nothing if it’s indeed happening.

If U.S. Soccer is indeed planning this shutdown at any time in the next few years, it makes complete sense to jump at this “opportunity” to do so when the rest of the playing season is already unlikely to be possible. Announcing a shutdown now would give clubs and players five months to get all their teams, rosters and memberships in new leagues squared away without the annual free-for-all in players and team movement each May and June.

Imagine a world where U.S. Soccer waited until after the National Finals in July to announce a closure of the leagues. By July, nearly all of the following season’s rosters are set for next year.

Announcing the end anytime before the current competition year concluded would cause chaos among the families and clubs involved right in the final stretch. It would be hard to get teams to show up with full rosters at the final rounds of “away” league games, let alone get on airplanes for playoffs, once their hearts and minds are looking to the future.

HOWEVER, they should not announce anything until they have a LOT of answers, and have coordinated with leadership at their member clubs. Hopefully, if this is happening, they will have arranged agreements with other leagues like ECNL or experienced operators of large leagues like USL to immediately offer a similar format and open doors to membership for all the clubs that want it.

All in all, if U.S. Soccer was going to do this at all in the next few years, the timing will never be better.
