LIJSL has suspended all League competitions effective immediately

LI Cup: The LI Cup, which was to begin play March 28/29th, has been canceled for Spring 2020

League Play: ONLY League Week 1, scheduled for April 4/5th, is canceled at this time

LIJSL will review, and reassess the situation on/about April 15, that they may resume competitions (League Play) with League Week 2, April 25/26th

The league has recommended the suspension of all related activities at this time. This would include training sessions (indoors or outdoors), practices, scrimmages, friendlies, in addition to competitions.

If I were a betting man I'd say that the entire spring season for all leagues will be wiped out.

You maybe correct
Assuming we restart in late April, many players or parents may be forced to miss games even with a common cold or allergies causing a cough....
Tough times ahead for sure

NY CLUB only cancelled after EDP and ECNL said they were going to. LIJ season wasn't starting until March. So don't give GG any credit.

Not true...My kids play in EDP. GG canceled the night before about two or three hours after the NBA canceled their season. I was wondering when EDP would cancel and they did so the day after.

Just saw a DR on TV that said by flattening the curve the only people it helps is the hospitals. The same amount of people will likely get the virus only over a longer period of time. So the economic impact is less if it goes straight up and then straight down but more people die. The flattening the curve model keeps people out of work, school and sports for an extended period of time. Sadly, The spring is over Johnny

Flattening the curve keeps more people healthy and from spreading the disease. Yes it's a painful decision to enforce social distancing, close schools and offices but the implications of doing nothing are far worse. It's sad the season is over and very likely schools will remain closed but without a vaccine or treatment, we have little choice.

Exactly, everyone is going to get exposed and most will get sick. By lengthening the period of time in which people get sick, the hospitals (hopefully) won't get overwhelmed. So yeah, the sports, school itself and most peoples jobs are gone for the rest of the spring.

ENY is sanctioned thru USYSA. Here is the USYSA statement:

Subject: 2020 USYS Leagues Program and Conference activities SUSPENDED through April 15, 2020

Given recent action taken by the US Soccer Federation, heightened travel concerns, and with the health of our soccer community in mind, ALL 2020 USYS Leagues Program and Conference activities are SUSPENDED through April 15, 2020. USYS will be evaluating conditions on a bi-weekly basis to determine when it’s appropriate to reinstate USYS activities.

ALL US Youth Soccer Conferences are impacted

This statement should cover the State Cup, but I do agree with you that ENY should make a public statement. Maybe they don't know about the virus? Wont be the first time they are clueless grin

Good question smile I think you need to ask LIJSL. Obviously they dont care because if they did I'm sure I would have heard from them. I think they will be updated and the 4/5 dates in the schedule will probably be removed and not added elsewhere, but it might be added elsewhere. I dont think they know what they will be doing.

I'm still questioning whether there will be a Spring season.

I can’t see a Spring season occurring at all. What does make sense and does bring value in multiple ways would be to have Local LI clubs hosts tournaments/ showcases vs each other. Like during June, You can group clubs by “level” (ie a tournament with EM, LISC, Fury, Surf, Smithtown, Stony Brook, etc) money raised could help charities or causes that make sense). Have these where the ages align for these clubs. Smaller and “lower level” clubs can do the same. This give the kids a chance to play, allows for friendly bragging rights, allows colleges to see older kids in live competition and gives back to the community. / all without forcing families to shell out a grand or two to travel, which likely will be a hardship for many.

schools, towns and counties have pulled all field permits so nothing is going to happen anywhere until those entities feel its appropriate. If school cancels for the year, do you really think they are going to let you play soccer on their fields when they don't think its safe enough to be teaching kids? Don't think so...

It's happening now. Schools are closed and kids are playing on the fields. Parents are allowing it.

Very different from organized league matches and baseball games

I believe the Town of Brookhaven just closed their parks. Any truth to that?

People just need to listen to the professionals and do what they are told. Some people just don't care and are doing what they want as far as the social distancing. Stupidity.

If I were a coach and looking to get back on the field and get back to competing I would be looking at Memorial Weekend as a plausible weekend where we might be able to get back to business...maybe.

Certainly Summer tournaments should be packed this year.

If so, the real question is when training will recommence. You cant just throw the kids into a tourney if they havent had any time to practice together. Do we as parents want to be on the hook to our clubs for the full monetary amount of the Spring season if it begins in late May?
