FROM SUSA ACADEMY

COVID-19 INFORMATION AND UPDATES

Given the current health and travel concerns surrounding COVID-19, SUSA wants to provide you with an overview of the steps that are being taken to keep our youth soccer community safe and informed.

SUSA remains committed to providing safe playing environments. We are regularly monitoring the recommendations and guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and local authorities, US Soccer, US Youth Soccer, and the US Youth Soccer State Associations.

Everyone Can Help Follow Preventative Measures and Best Practices Onsite
Everyday preventative actions can be proactively taken to reduce risks. SUSA strongly recommends the following precautionary guidelines be followed by your players and families:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water (at least 30 seconds) especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing the nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching the mouth, eyes or nose with hands.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean up team and training areas after every use (e.g. throw used water bottles in the trash).
  • Use alcohol-based sanitizers (60% alcohol) in addition to frequent hand washing.
  • Feel free to bring sanitizing products. Carry small bottles of alcohol-based sanitizers to use when hand-washing facilities are unavailable.
  • Keep hydrated.
  • Do not share water bottles or food.
  • No pre, during, or post-game handshakes with opposing team members or game officials.
  • If anyone associated with a team (coach, player, family member) feels ill prior to a scheduled event, please have them stay home and not attend the event in order to reduce risk to others.
  • If anyone associated with a team (coach, player, family member) becomes ill during an event and has symptoms such as coughing, fever, or general malaise, please contact a medical professional; to reduce exposure, consider self-isolation until evaluated by medical personnel; immediately exit the facility; do not come into personal contact with other participants.
  • Coaches and team managers: Please be sure to have updated medical information and contact information for all minors' parents or guardians that may not be present.

SUSA follows the below guidelines regarding the cleanliness of the facility-

  • Daily cleaning/disinfecting is performed throughout the facility by our management and staff
  • Weekly cleaning of the entire facility is performed by a professional company
  • Hand sanitizer machines are mounted throughout the facility for staff and customer use
  • HVAC system vacuumed and cleaned regularly

If any coach, player or spectator is feeling ill or has been traveling abroad, please take extra precaution and stay home to avoid the risk to others attending an activity at SUSA.

As a temporary safeguard, we will be suspending the "after the game" handshake until further notice.

Please contact us at 631-623-6535 if you should have any questions.

Thank you for your consideration and cooperation.

Sincerely,

SUSA

NYSPHSAA Statement on coronavirus

Author: Chris Watson, Director of Communications

In response to numerous inquiries pertaining to the potential impact of the coronavirus on upcoming NYSPHSAA State Championship events, Dr. Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA Executive Director, is closely monitoring the rapidly evolving situation.

At this time (afternoon of Sunday, March 8th), the NYSPHSAA State Championships will be hosted as scheduled. It is important for schools and athletes to practice risk mitigation as they prepare for participation in championship events and to follow recommendations from the New York State Department of Health.

Dr. Zayas is examining all scenarios and options related to the championships as the coronavirus continues to impact New York and the United States. As updated information is released by the New York State Department of Health, the New York State Education Department and Governor Cuomo’s office, changes to the championship events could become necessary and warranted.

The NYSPHSAA website and social media platforms are the best source of information pertaining to the upcoming State Championship events.

Isn't Dr. Zayas the same doctor from Planet of the Apes? the original with Charlton Heston?

Speaking of LIJSL is there a rumor/story that they are trying to join forces with EDP? That they are thinking of taking the premier teams in each division and try and maybe steal some of the top nycsl teams to form a lijsl edp league? Sounds very odd but heard this was a thought by lijsl.

Good post...not surprising. This has been on the table for a while. Clearly NYCSL has a huge target on their back. I think EDP and LIJSL doing something together is highly likely assuming LIJSL & ENY don't try and do business with EDP as they have done with others or LIJSL will find themselves on the losing end. Say what you will, but EDP is not a group that is short on brains or money.

Don't top LIJSL teams (that actually stick together) usually wind up in EDP after U12 anyway? They can't really go anywhere else can they?

play the season as scheduled (since we are outdoors now)....no hand shaking before, during or after the game probably a good idea for now.

It's not as risky being outdoors than being indoors and you are usually talking somewhere between 30 and 50 people at your typical youth game as opposed to thousands, if not tens of thousands being on the same campus at the same time in a college.

They better not cancel the season, I get maybe cancelling a tournament or 2, but kids travel soccer games don't draw crowds enough to cause a problem.

Do not be surprised if the Jeff Cup, LIJSL and EDP postpone things. We are learning more and more each day and this is going to get worse before it gets better. NBA postponed until further notice, NCAA tourney being played without fans, Inbound international flights ceased fro 30 days, major corporate conferences being cancelled. Serious s**t that should not be taken lightly.

I believe the smart thing to do for all these leagues is to take a step back and wait till at the minimum the first weekend of April to start up these league games again. That is to give the CDC & local medical officials the time to see how this crisis is either progressing or slowing down. When the health officials say the worst has yet to come since it’s unknown how many people have contracted the virus it makes sense to wait. That’s common sense! I hope these tournaments and league officials take this epidemic seriously even if some parents here say otherwise.

Long Islanders are taking this Covid 19 disease too lightly. This is a serious outbreak which can be fatal to
the elderly generation. Parents need to keep their kids at home until this virus slows down.
