After a perfect season culminated in a state championship, Brentwood boys soccer can now take its place as the best public school team in the nation.

The 22-0 Indians topped all public schools in the final USA Today Super 25 rankings, marking the second time the program has earned this honor. Brentwood finished third overall, behind private school powerhouses Saint Ignatius (Cleveland, Ohio) and St. Benedict’s Prep (Newark, New Jersey).

“It says a lot to get up there with the names on the list,” coach Ron Eden said. “It shows the strength and consistency of the program.”

Brentwood previously finished first in the nation, regardless of public or private affiliation, in 2008.

This season, they also topped all public schools nationally in the SIMA Fab 50 rankings.

Brentwood won its fourth state title earlier this month after defeating Fairport, 4-0. All 40 players saw playing time in the final, where Alex Garcia, Juan Gomez, Sergio Ventura and Brandon Yanez scored.

Garcia was a standout on the Indians backline all season, and also scored the decisive penalty kick in the team’s Suffolk County final victory over Commack. From there, the Indians defeated Massapequa in the Long Island championship and Ossining in the state semifinals.

Congrats to Brentwood.
Does NY have that much weight with Rankings?
If Brentwood barely got passed Commack where does Commack fit into the rankings?
But how do these rankings work? Does Anyone know?

The rankings on this site are dated 11-26-2019 (and coincidentally Brentwood is ranked 6th in NY obviously before they won the state title)....In any event how are these rankings calculated?

Realistically it's impossible to rank all the states and high schools - there differences in the strength of conferences teams play in, and some states just aren't big "soccer states." It's really based on records and that's about it. It's an accomplishment to win a state title and that's what the players and fans will remember the most.

MaxPreps does not do the rankings based on any formula. The USC (United Soccer Coaches) USA Today poll is a group of regional representatives who compile a weekly ranking. A conference call takes place weekly to discuss the compititions and the regional rankings are made. From the regional lists, the national list is compiled.

so its all based on opinion...at least got soccer rankings are done through mathematical formula.
In any event congrats to Brentwood.

Not only based on opinion but very few of the voters will have seen many if any of the other teams out of their area actually play. As was said it's mostly based on records, perhaps a touch of politicking.

Brentwood is a public school. Both schools ahead of them are parochial schools who can recruit a wide area. Granted Brentwood is double the enrollment of any other HS on Long Island, but still a wonderful achievment.

In addition to this, this only accounts for some of the states. Many Southern state schools and schools out West play their season in Winter and Spring.
