U15 Cosmos kid on my sons Varsity team. Good player. And I know a few others from his Cosmos team that are playing for their HS’s too. Maybe because Cosmos don’t have a U16 going forward ? Understand that if on nycfc or nyrb there’s no way you would want to risk putting that in jeopardy for HS ball.

Cosmos, Met Oval, and Gotschee players are always out playing on different teams and now i guess, school ball.
The only families that don't do it are the NYCFC and Red Bulls players (98% of the time)

Even some MLS kids do some school ball on the down low. I understand the kids like it. The injury risk though really does increase with all that playing.

It actually looks like a Dix Hills team is free ? 2005 boys ? Pretty great if that is true.

I know a lot the DA players miss playing with their friends or playing with multiple/local teams. To bad my son is a 04 he i would send him down to check that free 05 team out on Long island.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

There are several 2004 teams in your area that is is less then $1500
Long Island Premier,
, Brentwood, Massapequa that you should bring your son down to meet the players and coaches and make a decision. Just contact these clubs

No free teams on LI for boys. Cosmos became pay to play this year. $3000 / year just like gottschee and met oval.

Cosmos parent here. True, we were all told at the end of summer/beginning of the fall that there would be a $3000 fee for the year, and an e-mail was sent explaining what the payment schedule would be - $500 per month for 6 months, beginning in Aug. The weird thing is that, since that e-mail was sent out, there has literally been no further communication whatsoever regarding payment(s). As far as I know, not a single person has been asked for money yet. There were rumors that the Cosmos were seeking sponsors to offset the DA costs, perhaps something panned out on that front. No one knows.

Cosmos U16 plays in a "Pre-Academy" division in EDP, along with the U16 teams from the other non-MLS DA clubs in the area. Since they are technically not currently playing in/rostered for DA competition, the DA rule prohibiting these players from playing school ball doesn't apply. Individual coaches and/or clubs may have their own rules, however - I would think that HS ball would still be frowned upon.

As for any U15 DA players - yeah, they are taking a risk in breaking DA rules and potential injury.

Or just play at a decent club team and be the main man and play 100% of the games. You'll be fine. Try to get to the DA at some point later for exposure. No one is going to develop you. Like Dynamo Zagreb academy director said, "players are born, not made." Sporting Lisbon director said the same. For example, Arjen Robben played in a small town outside academy system. Was allowed to dribble like mad and only use his left. Zlatan's philosophy was "listen, don't listen" at Malmo academy. He credits playing before during and after school in public housing development and trying to pull off Braziliann Ronaldo moves for his skill level.

DA players sign an agreement not to play elsewhere - specifically school ball as they see the level and coaching as a regression. True or not, that’s how they view it. There is, however, “the gap year” at age 16. The DA split the 16/17s for girls, but not for boys. Some 16 year olds get selected to play up with the 17s and the remaining players stay together and play against the same DA opponents they’ve always played in a closed league that is technically not DA. Some of these players take a year to experience school ball before they form the 17s the following year.

I just saw this on other thread going to paste it here.

Agreed. Also go to the place that's closest, easiest, most fun and has a parent pool you want to talk to as you'll be spending a lot of time with them in the next few years. There will be so many changes both in any team that you are on and in your son's physique that it's way too early to be sacrificing yourself unless he's so keen to excel that he's out in the garden daily for hours, kicking a ball against the garage wall. There are so many hurdles ahead of you both and then just wait until soccer's competitors kick in - girls, cars, weed, video games, beer and sloth - in no particular order. Don't get too caught up in it too early, if he is keen, your son will find his own peer group and tell you where he wants to be. By the time they are 16, all the better players on the Island will know each other, how they rank and they'll make sure they play together. And promise yourself you'll never coach from the sideline, or call out the ref, you'll have several stress free years ahead if you can follow that, as it's truly only a game. It's ultimately odd to see them at U18, with their beards and men's physiques running around in shorts after a ball. So many of them grow out of it, even the ones with promise, they'd rather go the college they prefer than sacrifice their education and more importantly, their social life for a pointless game that no-one will be watching anyway. Chill, enjoy and don't get too caught up in it. Wish someone had told me that eight years ago.

Folks at any non MLS club should have an action plan. If MLS clubs pull out the entire landscape will shift

MO not distinguishing themselves this year in academy play. Give them a few months to poach some local talent so that parents can come on here to brag about the fabulous coaching, Take a close look at their younger teams. You won't recognize those players on MO in future years. No coincidence that their younger teams show poorly in cup play year after year.

http://events.gotsport.com/events/results.aspx?EventID=75178&Gender=Boys&Age=16

The u15 DA team, now u16 EDP ADL is doing alright.

no one cares about last years U15 DA Met Oval team...get over yourself

Awww... it sucks when facts conflict with your delusions. Must be a Gottschee dad.

No one really cares about the pre-academy league, its just truth. Why so offended? This is also a forum for DA only, so adding a pre-academy link for all to see the standings is irrelevant. I love how the parents between BWG and MO fuel the rivalry. I know many of those players are actually good friends.

I don't understand why everyone gets so pissed off about kids wanting to play on DA teams. I mean DA has a ton of issues but my kid loves playing at a DA club. They train 4X a week and are for the most part in a very competitive environment, the training can be touch and go (like any other club) but its far better than the travel team he played for at 8 and 9. My kid is now in high school and being part of a DA club has given him a sense of purpose, helps him stay focused in school and keeps him out of trouble. I'm sure that is the same for other kids who play at other clubs too. The reality is that CRAZY soccer parents (and kids) can be found ANYWHERE, not just DA. The most important thing is that your kid is happy wherever they are and some kids are happy playing DA.

So training more and xtra is unhealthy? I understand the insta is out of control but this kid trains two or three times a day, nothing wrong with that.

So this isn't wrong to you ?

Seems like some DA clubs played over Columbus Day. NYCFC 2007 played in EDP and BWG played at Columbus Cup.
