Red Bulls Shut Out Toronto 2-0


The New York Red Bulls (11-9-4, 37 pts) grabbed a crucial three points over Toronto FC (9-10-5, 32 pts), 2-0, on Saturday night at Red Bull Arena.

The Red Bulls moved into third place and just two points off Atlanta United for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.New York tallied their second clean sheet in the last three matches and first at Red Bull Arena since June 1.

Scoreless after 45 minutes, Kaku helped New York grab the lead early in the second half. The Argentine midfielder drove into the box and tried to pass across the face of the net, but Toronto defender Chris Mavinga deflected the ball into the net.Holding onto a 1-0 lead into extra time, 

Kemar Lawrence picked up a loose ball inside the box and doubled the lead to help the Red Bulls earn a 2-0 victory.

Lawrence scored his first goal of 2019 and fifth career for the Red Bulls.

Goalkeeper and captain Luis Robles made three saves to record his sixth clean sheet of the year and 69th of his career.Robles moved into sixth all-time in wins with his 111th league win, surpassing former Revolution and Galaxy goalkeeper Matt Reis.

Rece Buckmaster made his first career MLS appearance and start, while making his second appearance overall.

Buckmaster made his first start and appearance for the first team against New England in the Open Cup Fourth Round.

The Red Bulls raised their record to 5-2-2 following a loss this season.Head coach Chris Armas improved to 23-12-7 all-time at the helm.New York is 43-43-22 all-time in the month of August.

New York has scored 180 goals in August and allowed 166. New York will travel cross country to face LAFC on Sunday, August 11.
