EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – EDP Soccer, one of the leading event managers for soccer leagues and tournaments in the nation, has announced a partnership with tournament company Soccer Events Group, based out of Chicago, IL. Soccer Events Group, also known as SEG, runs 4 events a year and are known for providing tournament experiences in the Midwest attracting some of the top clubs in the region and beyond. Top US Soccer Development Academy sides Sockers FC (IL), FC United (IL), Michigan Jaguars (MI) and SC del Sol (AZ), as well as US Youth Soccer National League clubs Bavarians SC (WI), Galaxy SC (IL), SC Wave (WI) and Minneapolis United (MN), are frequent attendees at the SEG youth soccer tournament events.

The partnership will see winners from the 11U-14U top brackets in the SEG 2019 Chicago Cup Labor Day Showcase earn free entry to the EDP Cup Spring 2020 tournament held over Memorial Day Weekend. In return, winners from the 10U-13U top brackets at the EDP Cup Spring 2020 will gain free entry to the SEG 2020 Chicago Cup Labor Day Showcase. The state-line transcending partnership will raise the level of both events as more top-level out of region clubs become involved with EDP and SEG, giving winners from both events the opportunity to qualify for similar high-level youth soccer tournaments.

“After meeting with SEG representatives at the United Soccer Coaches Convention in January, it was clear that many of our values are aligned. By partnering with an innovative and experienced organization like SEG, we are excited to offer our membership more tournament opportunities through this reciprocal model,” explained EDP Regional Manager John Tait.

“At SEG, we feel that creating synergies with like-minded and established organizations, especially in the Northeast region of the country, creates great opportunities for our attending teams to experience competition outside of their normal region. This partnership is a great fit for us as we continue to redefine the Midwest tournament experience.” – Baer Fisher, SEG Director

SEG’s 2019 Chicago Cup Labor Day Showcase is set to run August 30 to September 2 across 33 fields on a single-site at the Vernon Hills Athletic Complex in Illinois. Registration and information for the Chicago Cup Labor day showcase is available here.

This is what's wrong with youth soccer. Shipping parents and players between Chicago and NJ at 10 and 11 years old on two of the most expensive weekends to buy tickets and secure hotel rooms. Yes, the clubs gain "free entry" but the parents still have a fund an expensive trip. EDP is in Florida forming a league and now in Chicago with tournament partnerships. They are all over the board chasing the next marketing gimmick.
