EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – Champions will be crowned in the EDP League Cup and US Youth Soccer National League EDP Conference Cup this weekend. The semifinals will take place on Saturday at the Sycamore Recreation Complex (League Cup) and Capelli Sports Complex (Conference Cup) in Tinton Falls, NJ, with the finals set for Sunday at the Capelli Sports Complex.
This weekend marks the culmination of a season-long single-elimination tournament. Early-round matches were held locally, with the four surviving teams advancing to the single-site championship weekend. All semifinalists had to win either three or four games to reach this point.
A number of the participating teams were in action at the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series Eastern Regional Championships in Barboursville, WV, earlier this week, including several that reached the knockout stage.
The EDP League Cup will be contested between boys and girls teams in the 11U and 12U age groups. The US Youth Soccer National League EDP Conference Cup, meanwhile, is only open to Premier I and II boys and girls 13U-17U teams in the US Youth Soccer National League EDP Mid Atlantic, North Atlantic and South Atlantic Conferences. The Conference Cup winners will earn automatic qualification for the 2019-20 US Youth Soccer National League.
All League Cup games will be 60 minutes, while the Conference Cup contests are 70, 80 or 90 minutes long. If the teams are tied after regulation, they’ll play two 10-minute extra time sessions, followed by penalty kicks (if necessary).
