That's the conundrum isn't it? My general guideline is if you are a consistent starter at a club that finishes at least mid tier or higher and, most importantly, has good coaching? Probably a good call (if HS doesn't matter to you). Being at a bottom dweller and even more so if you're not playing a lot? Look somewhere else.

Wouldn't it be great if the US had only one league structure with national. regional, and state/district leagues and different divisions in each so teams are grouped by ability like a real country all governed and run by USSF?

the money ship sailed a long time ago. There is no calling it back to home port.

Let’s not be too harsh on FC Westchester, their U16/17 DA team (most important year) qualified for playoffs and recently beat NYSC 5-1 (I understand NYSC are horrible).

The negative comments were much more directed toward George "the mechanic" who basically runs FCW, rather than the club itself. It was George who ran off the the 2 2005 Cosmos players after he bombed as coach of the 2005s. Steve Carson is great, but unfortunately after Ryan Casey left, George has been running the club - disastrously -- firing good coaches; keeping terrible ones; holding grudges, being petty, etc. etc. FCW should send George back to his car repair shop.

What role, good or bad do you see Sean Traynor playing at FCW?

Unpopular opinion here, but George, Stephen Carson, and the board has done a decent job running FCW. Given, I'm not sure about the stories of those coaches getting fired, or about those 2 younger kids leaving. But this year, getting fields, running practices, and taking care of the daily matters at least for the older teams has been good, considering FCW's budget.

I'm actually very surprised with the U17s making the playoffs as NYCFC poached their best players a few years ago (like they have done with every single FC team in the past couple of years), but kudos to them, especially when seeing the NYSC train wreck right next door.

Different poster -- but here is your fact check:

#34 on NYCFC 16/17 is from FCW;
the best boy from FCW that age is playing up on U18/19 NYCFC - #10 [National Team pool];
also #25 on NYCFC U14 was FCW's best 2005 [National Team Regional Camp invitee] (before the former best 2005 also went to NYCFC and now back to Japan); and
#21 on NYCFC's U12 was FCW's best 2008.

You will see this reflected on their DA Player history. Fact checked.

That said, FCW has done a horrible job even publicizing this - while NYSC always tout all of their players. To answer Larry's question - Sean Traynor and the Board are basically a "rubber stamp" for George the mechanic on all soccer issue and just won't/don't get involved, which hurts the club.

George single-handedly destroyed what was a talented 2005 team. He ran off a great coach in Mick O'Brien and his colleague John Mulhare. He then fired the replacement and inserted himself as a coach. To put it bluntly, he was clueless as both a coach and an evaluator. He saddled the team with 2 additions that were town ball players at best. The best performance last season was when George had a conflict and Mulhare had to coach. Mulhare literally threw out George's lineup and game instructions....instituted a Mick-esque lineup and gameplan....team beat BWG in the freezing cold 5-2. The kids were miserable all season under his direction as he barely coached practices and was verbally abusive to many when he did.

As for Sean Traynor....personally a nice person....but he facilitates the fiasco at FCW by not stepping in and clamping down on George.

Publicity for 4 players making at nycfc. 2 of which are young and you don’t know if they will last. FCW is an academy, those at not great numbers. As fiat as them being the best in their age groups that’s up for debate.

FCW and NYSC should be merged.

why? there's like 1.5mm population between westchester and lower fairfield. that should easily support 2 full DA programs (plus BSC). each program has leases on centralized fields. only reasoning would be if for some reason there was a desire to have better non-DA premier type programs. competition there definitely hurts each program's offerings. I don't think it would make the DA offering better as the same kids would get picked off by NYCFC anyway. both clubs will continue to be solid, mid-table programs, with the occasional playoff teams.
