Why arent' the better players from LI not trying out for NY COSMOS Academy. Only Academy program on LI and its FREE. Blows mind how we all say soccer should be free to play and here we are with a a club in our own backyard that is FREE and they are not attracting the better players ! But those parents would rather go to clubs that charge $2500-3000 dollars... SMFH

And now they are the only academy program with a direct link to a Seria A club Fiorentina.

I agree 100%. Its probably because the Cosmos dont know how to create a bandwagon so that all of the sheep, followers and keeping up with the Jones' type of Long Island parents would want their sons to play there.

Cosmos need to hire a publicity professional to appear more attractive

Yes have you been under a rock lately.. Cosmos Owner just purchased Fiorentina. And the team would be better if NYCFC didnt poach them last season and took 6-7 players. Regardless of that there are talented players if your good, stop wasting your team at a local club and pay $3000 go play academy, make the team better and play for free.. its a no brainer if you ask me.

For the Cosmos the 04s have lost 8-10 players to nycfc and MO over the past 2 seasons, and the 05s turned over most of their team last year and had a pretty decent season beating some good teams. I think the the 05s are the strongest cosmos team.

So are NYCFC and RED BULLS whose training and development are superior to NY COSMOS so why go there just because its in Long Island.

Do not know what you are talking about, my son is on that team and there are no rejects from FC Westchester. There are two kids who left the FC Westchester 2005 team to get away from the mad captain George "the Joke" Gjokaj.

Hold on a sec please -- the preferred nickname is George "the Mechanic" Gjokaj -- 20% off dent removal once you give FCW $4,000 for next year! LOL.

So drive 3 hours to NJ and back and go play NYCFC when they already have a farm system in MO ? And trust me training superior. Hahahaha that’s very debateable. If your son is good he will stand out be it with any of the 3 free academies. So yea definitely stay local and join Cosmos.

So it’s better to be at n a really bad DA team then a strong club team with good training and where the kids have fun?

Cosmos were not totally free last season, parents had to pay all travel expenses for out of state games and showcases as well as for indoor training and local tournaments I was told by a parent. And there has been no indication that this season will be fully funded even though they purchased Fiorentina. They haven't promoted the program at all, no interaction with their first team players, not one player invited to a US ID Camp which tells us that either coaches are not pushing the program and just collecting a pay check or the recruiting is not up to par due to other strong programs all around them - Barca, SUSA, etc. What makes parents think that this purchase will benefit these young players at all?

that's still a far better deal than a lot of other pay to play BDA clubs where you have fees + travel.

The parents are not realistic. You wouldn't believe how much time is wasted trying to get the perfect video for Instagram. Time that should be spent training if you have high expectations. I think the parents just want to monetize as much as they can now because there is no telling how good this kid will be at 14 years old or whenever he hits puberty and once the competition is just as good or better. Nevertheless, they should keep making money or getting free stuff as long as they can or at least until they recoup all the expenses of these docu-training sessions.

That's the conundrum isn't it? My general guideline is if you are a consistent starter at a club that finishes at least mid tier or higher and, most importantly, has good coaching? Probably a good call (if HS doesn't matter to you). Being at a bottom dweller and even more so if you're not playing a lot? Look somewhere else.

Wouldn't it be great if the US had only one league structure with national. regional, and state/district leagues and different divisions in each so teams are grouped by ability like a real country all governed and run by USSF?
