Not questioning the value of your opinion, we all can have one. Also, not going to diminish other teams and players, not very nice what you just did by the way. Don’t name, point our or describe an 11 year old as “big defender”. Leave individual players out of it.

Do agree that EM showed great improvement in the Fall, they dont seem to have found their feet yet in the Spring. SUSA and EM going to PDA tournament so it should be a good opportunity to play against some very strong teams and develop. Totally agree with NHP, and would add Auburndale to that list as well.

As far as Alby is concerned, I just don’t get why can’t people just give them the credit they earned. They are a very strong team, they do a lot more than kick from midfield or kick long balls. Teams have a very difficult time scoring on them (this is a fact, just look at the previous seasons records) and that is not because of one player. They have a great defense. Strong GK. It’s hard to get past them, we all know that as we played them multiple times. So they must be doing something right, and deserve the recognition. Not an Alby parent but it bothers me to constantly see this team be picked on. They are 11 year old girls, just like our own daughters. Alby definitely on the list of teams learning and developing.

-I agree with the previous poster- when someone is 6 inches taller and 20lbs heavier than most of the other girls on the field using the term "big defender" is quite appropriate, I looked and Albertson specifically does not do well once they leave NYCSL- draw your own conclusion but it could be because the size advantage is diminished at older ages.

2 questions. Which Alby team are you talking about? And what stats are you looking at?

There is no situation where is appropriate to call an 11 year old girl big anything. Not in this day and age.

Why is it wrong to point out that some players are way bigger or taller than others in the age group. Can you not say someone is slower or faster than other players or is that offensive too. Alby Red has a fantastic physically mature(bigger) player and she routinely scores from distances that her and maybe one other player in the age group can. Right now it's a significant factor in Alby wins and any other team in the age group would love have her on their team. Feel free to call my team small I wont freak out and go all millenial and ask for a safe space.

Great display of talent this past weekend at PDA Spring kick off. All Massachusetts final in the top division and all LI final in the second Division. Alot of good soccer.

I agree. It is not wrong to point out that a kid is big as compared to her peers. It is simply an easy descriptor and also relevant to how the team uses her. I highly doubt she comes onto BOTN to read anything and "big" is not an offensive term to describe someone, especially when they actually are way taller than everyone else. Same with "small" when a kid is significantly smaller.

Big and tall have two different connotations...stick with "tall".

I don't see any 4'5" 172lb 10 year olds playing in Premier Division of NYCSL or any Premier league for that mater and neither has anyone on this page. With that information to think someone using the term "big" was intending to describe anything other than overall height and size difference is moronic. You are simply looking for a reason to deflect from the facts. Using the term big or tall is completely acceptable and the people on this site who think its not appropriate should get a life. You are not the PC Police and have no moral authority to put another down because of a simple word. We are all dumber for having to read their posts.

Also the parents posting are d1 parents that know the specific players and teams that are mentioned here. There are no players on these teams that one can suggest that big refers to any thing other early growth. So the original poster stating that it was offensive and claiming such is a liar and just trying to play the victim card. The top level teams in the girls 2008 year all have top level athletes and some are just bigger then others at this time.

Does anyone know anything about Red Bull’s young olympians? My daughter “made” the team but i think they just took everyone. Is this a worthwhile program?

Like all programs it will depend on the ability to draw the top level player. I look at the quality of the players picked and joing because that's what's going decide the quality of the training. Without high level players you cant do the a more advanced training session, no matter who the trainer is. The other thing I consider is the trainer player ratio and how the cost breaks down too. Some of these programs cost 35 dollars per session per player now times that by the size of the training group. Let's say its 15 players for 9 v 9 team and you have the organization making 525 dollars per session. If they pay the trainer 100 dollars for the session you are talking about 425 dollars extra to go for what(profit). A whole outdoor turf soccer field cost about 75 dollars an hour without lights and maybe another 50 dollars for lights.

And there you have it the real reasons so many leagues and academy's have spring up the all want to be the next PR and live in a mansion off the beach. So everyone just do your selves a favor and find a dedicated head coach with a quality trainer and keep the costs and travel reasonable.
