Red Bulls vs Pantoja, Wed. 8pm, Champions League, Leg 1

After five weeks of preseason, the New York Red Bulls will begin their 2019 schedule with the Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 series against Atletico Pantoja.

Leg 1 of the Round of 16 kicks off on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET in Felix Sanchez Stadium with coverage on YahooSports.com in English and Univision Deportes in Spanish and New York Red Bulls Radio in English.

New York Red Bulls Radio begins at 7 p.m. ET with Countdown to Kickoff, hosted by Matt Harmon.

The Red Bulls head to their third consecutive Concacaf Champions League competition and fifth overall in club history. New York had a strong run in last season's competition as they reached the semifinals after becoming the third MLS team in league history to win a competitive game in Mexico with a 2-0 win over Club Tijuana in the quarterfinals.

In SCCL play, the Red Bulls have won or drawn in six of the nine matches (1-3-5) away from Red Bull Arena.

New York will be facing a Dominican Republic club in a competitive series for the first time in franchise history.

Atletico Pantoja qualified to appear in their first SCCL by winning the 2018 Concacaf Caribbean Club Championship. Pantoja recorded a 14-5-3 mark in the Primera Division de Republic Dominicana during the 2018 season and had the league's best defense with a 0.91 goals-against average.

Bradley Wright-Phillips looks to bring back his 2018 SCCL form as he earned Concacaf Best XI honors. Wright-Phillips tallied three goals and three assists in six SCCL matches last year. Alongside the English striker, New York captain and goalkeeper Luis Robles posted three clean sheets en route to an impressive 0.50 goals-against average in six matches.

New York and Pantoja will return to Red Bull Arena for Leg 2 on Wednesday, February 27. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET with coverage on YahooSports.com in English and Univision Deportes in Spanish and New York Red Bulls Radio in English.
