FC Bayern Signs 18 Year Old Center-back

FC Bayern signs 18-year-old center-back, Chris Richards on a four-and-a-half-year contract until June 30, 2023.

The Alabama native, who was initially signed on loan to the U19s from Major League Soccer side FC Dallas in July 2018, has amassed over 1700 minutes of play in more than 20 competitive matches with the German giants. He also featured in the club’s first team during the 2018 Audi Summer Tour.

"We are very happy that we have agreed Chris’ transfer from FC Dallas," says FC Bayern Campus Manager, Jochen Sauer. "Chris has represented us very well in the last six months and we are convinced that he will continue to develop well here at FC Bayern. We see great potential in him," he added.

"I've always dreamt of playing for a big European club and now I’m at one of the world’s top teams. I'm really happy," commented Chris Richards.

Richards joins from founding Major League Soccer Member, FC Dallas who have a proven track record of developing homegrown players. The Texas-based soccer team and FC Bayern formed an elite player development program in February 2018.

"Just under a year ago, we entered a partnership with FC Dallas to create pathways to professional soccer in the U.S. and Europe for young players. To be able to announce the transfer of a player today is a landmark moment for all involved,” said FC Bayern Munich’s President of the Americas, Rudolf Vidal.

Richards, FC Bayern’s second MLS signing, also represents the U.S. Under 20 national team and started in the semifinals and finals of the team's recent Concacaf championships title triumph, playing a crucial role in the U.S. team's 2-0 victory against Mexico.
