Recently here in Georgia, there has been lots of discussion on the costs associated with DA travel.
For DA in Georgia (assume like most clubs) parents do not travel with the teams and instead kids are bused and stay in hotels as a team.
This leads to parents cutting big time checks to the clubs for travel fees.

We created a survey that originally focused on Georgia DA clubs, but it was recommend we ask other states for entries as well.

Please take the time to complete this quick survey about your DA clubs travel fees and registration fees for the 2018-2019 season.
The survey can be found here -- https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdzzFg1ow38WHJeEzk8c3A8N9Jk1yfpFh4UjKyG7n55qap7vA/viewform

The results can be found presented and summarized here -

My son does not play on a DA team, and my family is relatively new to the soccer world, so please excuse my ignorance. I had no idea DA teams were so expensive. Not every family has the means to pay these exorbitant fees for a child to play soccer, so is it only the best kids who come from families able to pay the DA fees that play on DA teams? I don’t see how it can truly be the best kids that wind up on these teams, as I’ve seen argued in this forum.

Well we live in a pay to play society unfortunately. However, the DA gives out scholarships and financial assistance to those players who need it. Many clubs on Long Island do the same.
I know SUSA offers this as well (not DA) and I believe some other clubs do too.

If you qualify, it pays for travel related expenses which is really what makes the DA so expensive.
Here in NY we have so many teams in close proximity, that the travel isn't any more than say the ECNL or NPL.
Some DA teams travel abroad as well, not sure if this fund offsets that.
Welcome to NY soccer!

Wow, looking at the survey results DA looks cheap compared to ECNL or even NPL with some tournaments

Yea, once you throw in tournament costs for other leagues, DA sometimes isn't as bad. A big difference for many DA clubs, is you as a parent don't need to go to away games. Kids get sent together and the games are all tapes, so usually you can watch the game within 2 days.

Thanks for those who have taken the time to fill out the survey! We are still looking for more clubs to help out!

Scholarships are few and far between. Unless you're with a free-to-play MLS most likely you're paying. Scholarships usually don't include travel either, another budget buster.

Ny soccer is out of control. Is it any wonder why any new club comes here to get a piece of the pie. We are the ones that need our heads examined. There is hardly any “soccer money” to be had at the collegiate level. You want the money? Play lacrosse.

This copy and paste from the Got Soccer FAQ is yet another example of why money spent with GS is a factor in awarding points......

What placements in Tournaments qualify for points?

This depends on how many teams were in the flight.

Champions receive points regardless of the number of teams in the flight.

Finalists receive points if there were 5 or more teams in the flight.

Semi-Finalists receive points if there were 8 or more teams in the flight. If the event did not use our software we do not award semi-finalist points unless the event held a semi-final or consolation. For events using our software semi-finalists points are awarded in flights with 8 or more teams even if no semi-final match is held. The points are awarded based on the FLIGHT standings, NOT bracket standings. If the 3rd place team in Bracket A had more points in the event than the 2nd place teams in Bracket B, this team will be considered a semi-finalist.

Quarter-Finalist points are awarded only if a flight has 16 or more teams, and has official quarter-finals & uses our software.
