Still Love That Mike ($10,000 Fine, 2 Game Suspension)

Major League Soccer has issued Real Salt Lake Head Coach Mike Petke a one-game suspension for on-field misconduct during Real Salt Lake’s match against Minnesota United FC on July 14. This suspension is in addition to the one-game suspension as a result of being ejected from the game.

In addition, Petke has been issued a $10,000 fine by MLS Commissioner Don Garber for the use of abusive and profane language directed at officials and uncontrollable behavior when he was ejected from the game and for public criticism of officials during a post-game press conference.

This was the third disciplinary action against Petke, twice for public criticism of officials and once for improperly interacting with game officials.

Petke will serve his suspensions during Real Salt Lake’s matches on July 21 against the Colorado Rapids and on July 28 against the San Jose Earthquakes.

Additionally, Real Salt Lake has been issued a $10,000 fine for social media posts from the club’s official Twitter handle that endorsed and amplified Petke’s comments.
