“How can you help keep my child safe?”

That’s a question parents have been increasingly asking – and demanding – of their youth soccer experience. And it’s a great question.

This is why, beginning July 1, 2018, US Club Soccer is adding SafeSport online training to the stringent requirements already in place for all US Club Soccer-registered coaches and staff members: best-in-class background screening and completion of the Sideline Sports Doc online injury triage course.

The U.S. Center for SafeSport online training is free to US Club Soccer members and consists of three modules covering the following subjects: sexual abuse, hazing, bullying, emotional misconduct, physical misconduct, harassment (non-sexual) as well as reporting obligations.

Further details will be provided in a separate email to US Club Soccer members shortly, including instructions to access the online training.

All of this is driven by our Players First philosophy. Players First is a branded, holistic club soccer experience for parents and players, which emphasizes the development of each individual to his or her full potential, and helps parents make better choices about where their children should play. There are five pillars of Players First: Club Development, Coaching Development, Player Development, Parent Engagement & Education and Player Health & Safety.

Nearly two years ago, I penned an open letter to US Club Soccer parents and promised that “Player Health & Safety is our first and most important responsibility. To act otherwise would be irresponsible.” That assurance remains. Achieving the safest environment for our youth soccer players is of utmost importance.

SafeSport recently garnered national attention when federal legislation was signed into law: “Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and SafeSport Authorization Act of 2017.” This bill – among other responsibilities – extends the duty to report suspected child abuse, including sexual abuse, within 24 hours to adults who are authorized to interact with minor or amateur athletes.

Together, we will achieve the safest possible youth soccer environment that truly puts Players First.

Thank you for your support.

Perhaps psychological testing like the type done for pilots and law enforcement officers to prove that they are psychologically suitable to be coaching children?

Hmmm, wondering how many psychopathic narcissistic sociopaths could be weeded out?
