Costly Error Puts Red Bulls Champions League Chances At Risk

All in all, a 0-1 result on the road in Mexico in the New York Red Bull's first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League semifinal match isn't a terrible result, but a very costly poor choice of making a pass at the center circle by New York's Tyler Adams may be enough to keep the Red Bulls from advancing into the final round.

That, plus losing two starting players to next week's match at Red Bull Arena as a result of yellow cards last night against Chivas will force the Red Bulls to alter their lineup and change their attack.

An early first-half goal gives Club Deportivo Guadalajara a 1-0 lead over the New York Red Bulls after the first leg of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Semifinals on Wednesday night at Estadio Akron.

Both teams will return to play Leg Two on Tuesday, April 10 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET with coverage on Univision Deportes, go90.com and Red Bulls Radio in English on TuneIN.

With a 1-0 deficit heading into Leg Two, New York will need to defeat Guadalajara by at least one goal to advance or a 1-0 score line to force penalty kicks.
Following a Red Bulls turnover, Chivas' Rodolfo Pizarro connected with Isaac Brizuela for the eventual game winner in the 26th minute.

New York was held scoreless for the first time in the tournament. The Red Bulls had scored at least one goal through the first four matches of SCCL play.

The Red Bulls were dealt their first loss of the SCCL tournament, having held a 3-0-1 mark prior to the match. New York and Toronto were the only two teams left in the tournament without a loss prior to tonight's game.

New York implemented its ninth different starting XI of the season.

Following their yellow cards during the match, Alex Muyl and Aurelien Collin both will be out for Leg Two against Chivas due to yellow card accumulation.
