Tournament has lost some luster after a few cancellations and very cold weather. Was a great tournament early on. ECNL and GDA has cut out a lot of local flavor. 5 years back the numbers and quality seemed much higher. Still a good tournament for local teams looking to get an early job on Spring. Prefer to just wait it out till Jeff Cup. Seems many of the larger showcases have peaked in attendance and are trending downward. Getting more and more difficult to get a large group of top teams to attend the same showcase. Drop off is incredible after 1st brackets.

we did it last year and weren't willing to gamble on the weather again. The competition and # of teams in the boys bracket from last year to this year in our age group dropped off, significantly.

That was some of the coldest weather last year. Miserable conditions.

At least it happened. They had to cancel two years in a row which ticked off a lot of people, especially out of town teams who got screwed with hotel cancellations. It's much more local now as a result. Yes it's usually cold and miserable but a good way to shake off the winter rust and for HS teams to play together for the first time. It's not a good showcase event, just a good kickoff.

Still good, not as good as it once was. Some teams opted for VA in March or other events where the likelihood of cancellation is almost nil.

it seems you spoke too soon ;), although it's better than last years brutal freeze.

Current forecast: low 40s, but with 20mph winds.

chance for some snow on the ground in the early hours but that's it. Fields will be very wet from snow (Friday night) and 2" of rain on Friday during the day. Bring changes of clothing, especailly for GKs

Not missing much by not attending this tournament. Girls u17 bracket is a poor showing of teams. Looks like the bottom of the barrel. Glad I will be home in the warmth of my fire place

My original reply was meant to be sarcastic.

How about the matches this week where they had to paint the lines blue to differentiate with the snow on the ground. Every year parents complain but the kids are happy to play.

If our kids were getting paid to play then, yes, conditions wouldn't matter. But this tourney....??? Wind gusts + low temps + wet fields = misery

SOGGY Grass fields, turf may be a bit better but will be wet! Dress for the elements, as least it won;t be as cold as last year.

Your response says it all. "Pay to play". I hope if your daughter has ambitions to play in college you stay out of the way. Colleges can see people like you a field away. I have seen first hand and heard from good friends stories about how parents like yo with your attitude have screwed it up for there daughters. A tournament like this is an opportunity for your daughter to play and gain experience regardless of the competition and the fact that it is so convenient and you do not have to travel for hours and stay over is a bonus. Next you are going to complain about the distance to a field, go ahead, have n't heard that yet or will it be the start time? Just stay home.

As long as it is safe then they should play. It is not worth a child breaking an ankle/tearing an ACL because of playing on an unsafe field. Some of the fields are along the water, I can't see how with all of the flooding that they are projecting as well as the rain that the fields would be safe.

Tomorrow will be better but still, Referees will be dressed like snowmen, unable to move, who can blame them? Outside for 4/ 5/6 games straight, ~$35 per match when they run the lines, another ~$20+ when they get their turn in the middle. Like the kids, they better bring extra shoes, socks, underwear & ...you name it.

Good Luck to all the boys/girls ...March madness!

I wholeheartedly agree with the above post. "As long as it is safe", unfortunately some tournaments look first at the repercussions for cancelling matches over the safety of the players and will hold out as long as possible to cancel. Looking at the forecast for today it's a "no brainer" but for tomorrow the field have to be inspected beforehand to insure the players safety first and foremost. Let's hope that MSC shows common sense and think about the safety of the players on these fields.
