Press Release - January 19th 2018
When the WYSL moved to sanctioning affiliation with US Club Soccer, state and county borders no longer created barriers restricting teams from entering into the WYSL. Starting for the Spring 2018 season, any team location within a 40 mile radius of Mahopac (encompassing the new northern zone) or within a 40 mile radius of the White Plains (encompassing the central zone) can now apply to join the WYSL.
Due to the expansive number of teams per age bracket already within our central zone and the number of inquiries received concerning the new northern zone, teams will have the option of being seeded geographically if they so desire. This will enable many more teams from a much expanded area to be placed within similarly leveled, competitive divisions all within an hour or less driving distance.
For over three decades, the WYSL has been geographically based within lower and central Westchester, in an area restricted to a 35 miles radius of White Plains. Teams or clubs that were based in neighboring Connecticut, Rockland, Putnam or Dutchess County, "need not apply".
"We are very excited that the WYSL is now able to offer our northern neighboring clubs, who are having increasing trouble finding competitive matches within reasonable driving distance, a league with the depth of competition and options of the WYSL." Julian DiDonato - WYSL President
