Barca in LI

Then we have something different. Long Island is different, it is owned by us. Arizona is different.

Q. Different than Long Island?

The difference between the one in Arizona and the rest is Arizona is really a partnership with the people there, and with the people that will receive a scholarship there, and they will learn about football. But not only football, they will go to school. The rest of the academies, Long Island and the rest, are schools, where after school time. …

Q. So players there will remain in their local school.

A. Exactly. They go to school, and then they can go after school to Barca, and we continue to teach them soccer.

Q. How much are you trying to find a player who will be on F.C. Barcelona in 10 years, and how much is this a commercial expansion and getting Americans to know Barcelona better?

A. The objective is that in the U.S., for example, that those young kids from 6, 7 years will learn about soccer, and they will become soccer fans. That their sport will be soccer. That does not mean that if some of those players that we see could be talented players — then the idea is to bring him to Arizona, to Phoenix.

Was not my post but I believe they were simply saying the academy in Arizona is a real partnership with Barca, including fully funded training, schooling, etc. while LI is licensing thing one step above town travel soccer.

Barca owns the LI venture. It is the only Barca school in the US that Barca owns.

The Arizona Academy is the only true "academy" Barca is part of in the US but Barca does not own it. They are an active partner in the venture.

The rest of the Barca programs in the US are also partnership deals, similar to Arizona but they aren't at the Academy level like Arizona.

Honestly, he couldn't have been any clearer that they don't consider the LI Academy a conduit to Spain. This is a man who has global marketing in his blood and $$ in his eyes and even he couldn't bring himself to pretend that there is a pathway.

He could not have been clearer and he even avoided the temptation to say that Arizona had a pathway to Spain.

Why do you care so much? Who cares if Spain Barca has anything to with the LI club. Seriously, shut up already. They are a LI club, nothing more, nothing less. Let the teams play and be judged on that, not on their ability to exploit a name.

He sees these American kids and their parents as revenue sources. This is a licensing and branding play.

You people are ridiculous to keep saying that- of course they see us that way- The USA is where the money is. BUT so is every club around here- SUSA, KK, LIPFC, Albertson, Quickstrike, PDA, Cedar Stars, Everton, etc.
They are businesses so get over it.

Of course the format of developing is bad. What's the incentive to develop?

Everyone is right it's a business. Nothing wrong with that. I never understand saying "it's a business" as a bad thing. Soccer is not only a business everywhere else in the the world, it's BIG BUSINESS. It's a big business here too when you lump the whole thing together. But the US system is a disaster from the top down. It's literally unprofessional. Thousands of so-called "elite" kids playing with no connection to a professional club and the structures that brings: develop kids, sell on the best ones to bigger clubs, reinvest the earnings in making your small professional club better.

I don't think people understand how far off the mark we are in the US. Look what Germany did. This is from the NY Times in 2012:

"In a little more than a decade, Germany has invested nearly $1 billion in its youth programs, with academies run by professional teams and training centers overseen by the national soccer association, the Deutscher Fussball Bund, or D.F.B."

$1 billion invested over a decade by the freaking national government in soccer. German soccer is one of the pillars of the German national economy. It's that important to them.

And that's just one example. Spain, France, Belgium and now England all made massive investment in development. They didn't leave it to a bunch of town teams to try and build something and then hope for the best.

Meanwhile back at 2005 boys soccer. With DA clubs taking a lot of better kids how strong will the other leagues be?

Still plenty of good teams - but maybe a shift in the top names outside of DA?

Biggest impact is the move to 11 v 11 in terms of having a deep club/roster. There was also movement of coaches as well - Albertson, Atletico

Just a reshuffling of the deck. We will be dealing with another shakeup next year. Everyone will run to the next best thing. Its all the same talent pool just wearing different jerseys. Its kinda sad. Hopefully things get less crazy but i highly doubt it. Good luck

No coaching change at Alby as far as i know. Rumor that Danny was going to NYCFC, but that was only a rumor.
