It seems that once again our brilliant brain trust behind one of our school districts, Sachem have demonstrated yet again what poor business acumen they possess. After turning down $18,000 a month from SUSA the BOE restarted the bidding process and awarded the bid to Team 91 of Lacrosse world. BOTN does not yet know what happened, although we have a good idea, but look at what was found at the Sachem Soccer Plex....nuff said.

I was wondering why the lease money wasn't included in the proposed budget.

I noticed the sign the other day too, I just thought that it was left up from the Winter.... What is wrong with this BOE??????

Larry. Sachem BOE voted to terminate the lease of SYSL effective May 1. It has not come up on the agenda again. Are they allowed to play there without an agreement? How does insurance cover an injury for someone that may be using the field without permission. This seems like SYSL and the Sachem BOE may be putting the children at risk.

So then they shouldn't be playing there for the rest of the season.

Like I said...The Sachem BOE is clueless....they blew $18,000 a month for 10 years with 3 years upfront.

Sure, I just meant that they were still legal today. I have no idea what they are going to do next month. I'm betting that SUSA makes another run at the SYSL fields. If they are going to be this massive club/academy they are going to need dedicated fields instead of renting all over the place.

SUSA will not be making another run....the Sachem BOE burnt that bridge. BTW, would you want the Scahem BOE as your landlord?

They were not given an extension until 6/1 at the board meeting when they terminated the lease. A board member brought it up but they never voted on it. They only voted to terminate. There has been no other extension to 6/1 on any BOE agenda. I believe they are currently playing without an agreement of any kind. Anyone should be able to play on those fields at this time including KK, LGN, SUSA and anyone else who wants to.

Were the fields really awarded to Team 91? I read on BOTC that there's no deal between Sachem and team 91 and "My Lacrosse Tournaments" has backed away from paying a high rent per use cost as well. So is it back to square 1?

My Lacrosse Tournaments and Team 91 are the same organization...yes, Team 91, etal., was awarded the lease...what happened after that is unknown by BOTN.

I think they were the front runner but it was never on any BOE agenda to vote on the lease. I was told it was a collaboration between Team 91, LIJSL, and SYSL.

I don't know if you would call it awarded, selected or whatever, but they did "win the bid". That being said you are correct, the lease has not yet been finalized or approved in a board vote so it isn't a done deal yet.

The process of bidding includes an entity that is "awarded" the bid. Because your feeble mind can't differentiate the meaning of "awarded" and a medal makes you mildly [****]. Win the bid means there was a competition, there wasn't a competition. They did have an RFP and bid process. As a Sachem tax payer that system has failed.

One should understand the process before bloviating. After the RFP process in complete, the board needs to vote on the recommendation of the proposal. It is not a done deal until that vote is approved. If the board has misgivings about the deal or the process they can still turn it down if they deem it not to be in the best interest of the school.

SYSL is now operating on those fields without a lease. What happens when someone gets hurt? I understand the desire for everyone to look the other way and let the kids play soccer there while a new lease is negotiated but someone in charge has to be aware of the huge legal liability that exists. I mean, everyone involved from SYSL to LIJSL to the Sachem School District are going to be on the hook if anyone files a lawsuit over an injury that occurred on those fields. You know that the insurance companies are going to refuse to pay on any claims made for what they will see is an unauthorized activity.
At a minimum the Sachem BoE should issue a temporary extension to the old lease just to give everyone legal cover.

It's possible that they have a permit to use the school grounds. No lease is required and it's much easier to acquire. But yes, there should be some sort of written permission.
