TIM BRADBURY My friend called me to say the recent criticism of Tim Bradburry on BOTN was without merit and confirmation. She then suggested I post a new thread (since she holds no BOTN account). Does anyone have any good, great soccer, stories to share about TIM BRADBURY? He must have some supporters since he has risen through the ranks of the topsy turvy world of soccer in NY. Is he the only one that can organise a piss up in a brewery? Regards, Jane S.

My one and only close up experience with him was when he stepped in to ref a game and then proceeding to repeatedly stop the game and lecture the coaches every time they dared to instruct their players.
Other than that I've only been at the LIJSL convention coaches meetings where he tells us how awful we all are.

I worked with him for many years. He is very enthusiastic about the game and thinks he is teaching the correct way. I understand why people fall for his line of BS. He truly believes in himself and his ways. However, I found that his condescending remarks and constant berating do not develop kids very well. His teams are also absolutely allergic to scoring. It seems to be an afterthought to his training. Control, control, control. Goals don't matter. Maybe a good philosophy, but pretty discouraging to kids learning the game.
Sorry, but besides the occasional funny wise crack, it is hard for me to produce a fond memory of working with him.

Trump has followers and so does this guy but even Tims crowd will never say anything behind his back to support him, they just fake being his friend and I am one of them. This is the kind of guy that would ruin a players chance just because he was insulted by them or their parents. He is a nasty jerk. Here are some replies and statements you will never get concerning TB. Wonderful role model Inspiring Thoughtful Educated Smart Giving Compassionate Willing to learn Good sportsman Creative Progressive thinker Command of the language Gracious winner Gracious loser Great for the game

Dear Anon, I am not a robot although currently my body is comprised of non organic material so any Asimov fan might say I am actually a robot. The "piss up" quote is directly from the mouth of TIM BRADBURY. That is his line and I am merely making a sardonic reference to his horrid ability to teach/coach. Sincerely, Jane S.

Tim Bradbury sounds like a character out of a Ray Bradbury story (he he). There is a youtube video of him coaching a girls team entitled "speed of play" an indeed the remarks regarding his relentless condescension towards the girls is apt. He seems not to be able to control himself with his patronizing comments and comes off as a real wanker as they would say over there in the monarchy. Snide, condescending, patronizing ....YOU are the reason youth sports suck. Thanks LIJSL for making us all listen to his drivel.

Doesn't sound like something the players were expecting from the DOC from ENY or an approach you would take as a coach with players you don't know. Lead by example, what did those coaches walk away with ?

In a combative sports culture like the Long Island soccer culture it is anticipated that there are going to be varying opinions on all of the people involved in soccer.
Tim Bradbury is an educated soccer professional, who is brave enough to publicly voice his strong opinions, and works to better the game. Whether or not you agree with his approach is entirely your opinion and your right to disagree. However, he is certainly direct and forward with his views. The same is not always true of others.
Unfortunately, Long Island soccer appears to be more divided than other areas of the Country. This divide is holding back the progress of the game and the betterment of the players. Long Island teams' performances outside of Long Island reflects this hold back and divide in many age groups and in both genders.
If all of Long Island's paid soccer professionals were invited to a meeting at a central location on Long Island to discuss the betterment of the game for Long Island's players, would 100% attend? The answer is "probably not." Of those who attended, how many paid soccer professionals could agree to go along with a plan that they agree is the best plan for Long Island soccer players? The answer is "probably not many." Scary to that the soccer community is not united.
Tim Bradbury is consistent in his approach and steadfast in not compromising best practices for player development. He has invested tremendous time in his own coaching education and the education of others. His credentials are excellent.
I am sure we all can tell stories of Tim being "sarcastic". Is the issue with the sarcasm or with the truth of the sarcasm? Heck, Tim and I have had our disagreements over the years, some of them very strong. But in the end, I respect his education, forwardness and perspective.
I have nothing to gain from this post. My staff and I have taken my coaching licenses and need no return favors, do not currently participate in any ENY programs, and do not have any business interests that are affected. Instead, I simply wanted to contribute a positive perspective of Tim.

Obviously Tim never made fun of your son for an entire season. based on your son's speech impediment.
Nor did he refer to your son as a "midget" repeatedly.
I have dozens more similar stories about him. He knows soccer. He just doesn't know how to treat people, particularly children.
Blabberbury may be the most appropriate nickname I have ever heard. Thank you Larry Miller.

Success is a difficult concept to measure.
As sports enthusiasts we mostly measure success by game results, college placements, US National team placements, etc...
Tim has been very candid about his interest in educating coaches, parents and players without regard for game results.
We can all debate the appropriateness of any coach's approach, Tim included, but at the end of the day it is a matter of preference.
I enjoy debating Tim and other soccer people because I believe any rational debate on soccer do's and dont's is great for the game because it challenges what we believe.
When the final whistle blows, it is important to remember that we all have families and lives outside of the field and those lives are not forever. I am grateful for the opportunity to coach people's kids. In a competitive marketplace like Long Island it certainly ignites the competitor in all of us.
Keep it in perspective and enjoy your time with your kids. It will pass too quickly.
