EDP Soccer, one of America’s leading operators of youth leagues and tournaments, is excited to announce that its events will follow optimal player development standards and have been added to the list of approved outside competitions for teams participating in the¬†U.S. Soccer Development Academy.¬†EDP will host Development Academy teams at¬†some of their¬†most competitive tournaments and showcases.

To meet this selective criteria, the 'DA Division' of EDP events will follow play-to-rest standards that are ideal for player health, safety and performance. Those teams will play only one game per day, with no more than two consecutive play dates. Additionally, in order to provide the best competition model for player development, the games will feature a limited number of substitutions (no re-entry) and three sub moments per team.

With over two decades of event management experience, as well as direct experience working with clubs across the county, EDP Soccer creates world-class environments within which the most competitive players can compete and further their growth and development.

The addition of U.S. Soccer Development Academy teams will enhance the meaningful competition and professionalism of these events, which in turn will have a positive impact on the overall event experience.

Effective January 1, 2019, the following events are designated as approved outside competition by U.S. Soccer to host Development Academy teams:

- EDP Cup Fall Showcase - Boys

- EDP Cup Fall Showcase - Girls

- EDP Cup Fall

- EDP Cup Spring

- National League EDP Conferences Spring Showcase - Boys

- National League EDP Conferences Spring Showcase - Girls

“Having DA games as part of EDP events makes perfect sense. The EDP leagues and tournaments are some of the strongest in the country.”¬†-¬†John Ellinger,¬†Baltimore Armour¬†Technical Director.

Development Academy teams elicit significant interest from college coaches looking to recruit top talent. The inclusion of Development Academy teams in EDP Showcases will provide an additional draw for college coaches.

"Cedar Stars Academy have had a great experience at EDP Cups and EDP Showcases. Our teams regularly attend these events; the competition and playing facilities are excellent. Our last showcase was very well attended by college coaches. Our club is looking forward to continuing to support these events." - Tab Ramos, U.S. Soccer Youth Technical Director

"Last season, our two oldest DA teams, as well as our gap year team, attended the EDP Fall Cup Showcase and were extremely pleased to compete there against fellow DA teams from Cedar Stars Monmouth. College coach attendance was superb. The playing surface and the venue as a whole was superb and the games our teams played were a great prep for the DA Showcase Florida event that was held just after the EDP Showcase event." - George Gjokaj, FC Westchester, Director of Operations

Questions: Any inquiries can be addressed by contacting Ashley Wells, Director of Tournament Operations, EDP Soccer at ashley@edpsoccer.com. Please visit the EDP Soccer tournament page for more information about events.

So for the EDP events, the DA teams will only play 1 game per day and won't play more than 2 days in a row. However, for the various DA showcases, 4 games in 2 days - no problem! LOL What a joke the entire US soccer "organization" and structure is.

You don't know WTF you are talking about. DA teams go to showcases and play 4 games in 2 days. Period. Check out any of the local U14 DA teams. They all played 4 games in 2 days at the NC showcase in October.

You are missing the bigger picture....USYSA works put a deal to have DA teams play at USYSA events....as opposed to US Club whose ECNL teams get to play with npl teams and now ECNL2 teams.....

Nice win for EDP and USYSA

At the U14 DA showcases, these are four half games. Same thing as two full games. Please check your facts first.

This is great news, I have a question if there is a tourney that only a few DA teams are attending would they mix DA Teams with the Top bracket of EDP tourneys?

I know people say DA is the pinnacle of talent level however there are several EDP teams that can play DA level. Not only would it be beneficial for these College Showcase Tourneys for College Coaches but also for the DA programs to see EDP children play as well.

Any thoughts

Please explain how it is beneficial for DA teams to play EDP teams or having ECNL teams playing EDP teams? Why is it beneficial for separate leagues to play against each other when those leagues have there own separate tournaments exclusive for those leagues in which the college coach attendance has been great.

Any team can enter these events and choose to play. There are many great teams outside of GDA and it’s great for development to allow these team to play locally against local competition. There weee a bunch of these events last year, and I don’t think that GDA teams were necessarily better in terms of a result.

I took the announcement as saying that DA teams are now allowed to play in EDP events. And not that the DA Division will necessarily have only DA teams.

Hard to convince parents to pay for DA if you go to tournaments to get beaten by "average" teams so while they may open up play against EDP/NPL teams it will be hard to create a scenario where losing is not a complete PR disaster.

Ex-GDA parent - from PDA.

The cost is not different between ECNL and GDA. Travel and fees are just about the same. Get your facts straight.

To get same training now I have to pay for extra sessions. Same coaches come to see the team at showcases, refs are worse, and we play more kick and run teams.
