I understand that may not be a problem next year. LIJSL has finally gotten the message tyat the convention is dead...I hear they are closing up shop. You are right. No one wants to go...if they did, 550+ teams would not have applied for the MSC Pre-Spring Classic Kickoff which is the same weekend.

If a player or a coach gets a red card during the game does that team automatically get zero points for that game?

The rankings are not useful without a feedback mechanism for each team. We have won, been in the middle, dropped lower, back up near the top with the same coach, kids and parents. It would help if the coach received a rating for the games prior to next season. The feedback sheets can be game unspecified but at least a team can see if it is the coaches, parents, player behavior, all three or something else that leads to a unsatisfactory sportsmanship score.

I was just wondering how the sportsmanshp ratings are figured out. Is it the refs that vote?

dont overthink it....you will never figure it out.

Teams will come in first one season by a mile and then come in last the next season. No rhyme or reason

I've never seen that, you overexaggerate. I think it is fairly reflectice of the top team and the bottom teams. The middle group could be a bit subjective. If you behave well all year it will show, if you continually dont
do well it also shows.

i actually had it happen to my team and the 3rd season we ended up
3rd. no cards, fights, parents or anything else to account for the drop.
if you win it, thats nice. if not, dont lose any sleep over it.
usually the majority of the teams in each division are grouped somewhat together. every now and then you will see an outlier at the bottom. if that outlier is consistently at the bottom, they are the ones to watch.

I must say our division was pretty accurate with the bottom teams and us at the top. We have won several times (we have also won the division so we are not the team always getting killed and winning the Sportsmanship out of kindness). What you see is usually due to the coach and how annoying he/she is.

It is not always fights or cards that you lose sportsmanship points but how you conduct yourself. Sometimes loud mouth coaches that dissent on calls do not understand that they lost points for that, if a kid persists in complaining loses points on that, a parent yelling push them if they push you loses points on that.

Some folks just do not get it that these are kids playing out there.

They also theoretically rank the teams on having the proper uniforms (matching socks and shorts) as well as the appearance of the coaches. You could be the most polite team in the world and still lose points if your kids don't tuck in their uniforms.

Get real, the uniform piece is 5 points out of 45 points, losing one or two for sloppy stuff is not as bad as losing 20 points for yelling or screaming.
