While the LIJSL maintains a strict and archaic rule about team tryouts only being allowed during the month of June, BOTN has some work-arounds for teams still looking for players.

First, the JUNE ONLY rule only applies to registered LIJSLteams. If your team is also sanctioned by USCS or SAY Soccer, you can hold tryouts.

If your team is only sanctioned by LIJSL, you can get around their dictate and post your OPEN PRACTICES as LIJSL has no rule against OPEN PRACTICES. While it is expected LIJSL will close the Open Practices loophole, in the meantime, you can use it.

I thought I was the only one who thought June tryouts are a horrible idea. Kids should be studying for finals, not getting worked up and exhausted at soccer try-outs! Sheesh!

When do you want tryouts, after the kids are done with school? or during the summer when kids/ families are away

Sometimes a break is needed 3 nights 1 1/2 hrs is 4 1/2 hrs

How about tryouts whenever? The above poster is correct. June has finals, SAT, and regents. Do you think soccer tryouts should take precedence?

School is WAY MORE important but sometimes a little break is needed that's all i'm saying

a 2 hr break is not bad

Kids have a lot of pressure on them nowadays

what better way to feel good than to kick a ball around with friends

clear the head.

How about taking the break after finals, etc...but it doesn't matter anymore as LIJSL is no longer the deciding or authorative league

A 2 hour break?

The problem with our kids are there are too many breaks and too many holidays, and the entire Summer off. wait a minute, that isn't the kids fault. It is the teachers union...another bunch of folks who whine and cry and blame parents and students for the poor quality of education in this country.

tryouts aren't about blowing off steam and kicking the ball around with your friends. they are a stressful and exhausting endeavor. what better time to have them than right in the middle of final exams. brilliant!

Why limit when a team can have tryouts? Right now I'm not sure that the team my child plays for will be around in the Fall.

On the flip side, what about teams wanting to supplement the roster or replace players that have moved away during the Summer, etc.?

How many tryouts are you going to?

What age are you?

Maybe you are the one making it stressful and exhausting for your child because they have to be on the #1 team every year

That is not true! Many kids at every level of play gets stressed at tryout season. Teams folding, merging, and forbid a parent for trying to find a better environment for your child. June is probably the best time to have tryouts but I think the discussion is why limit to June.
