And For Albertson U14 pre-A fans out there: their 98/97 team a Pre-A Players only picked up 4pts in their bracket. They are a very good team but only beat Ironbound who were a shadow of their usual strength. Not saying they are not good, but no better than MSC, Beachside or NYSC.

Another reminder...Albertson and other Pre-Academy teams are playing up a bit in a tournament like the Manhattan tournament.

No Albertson was not ; Their younger 97 player were on that team long with the older
98s

Cosmos otoh was playing 5 months up with both their 99s and 98s: they did not, unlike Alby, re-roster their teams to fit USYS age groups.

Kudos to Cosmos for having the professionalism to come out and play some their peer non DA teams. I watched their 99s. They were a good side playing attractive soccer. They 13s tied Everton's special guest player laden tournament team who won the whole thing.

Beachside had good weekend but the games with Albertson and MSC were very close and could have gone either way. I was really impressed to see how MSC had improved over the past year.

Trying to say Who is "best" is a silly exercise. If you enter a tournament with this level (7 of 8 teams in the bracket were DA or EDP teams) you should be happy if your team is able to should she good soccer and win a few games. Winning the trophy at this level requires not only ability but a run of luck - one shot that goes in or just goes by the post can decide the whole thing. Beachside's winning goal over Albertson was 10 feet offside. But a minute or so before that they scored and it was wrongly called off-side. So ref calls are factor too.

Beachside won the final on PKs by one kick in s.d. phase.

Personally I wish Gotsoccer rankings would go away. Beachside's points will go down after the weekend. The will lose the 5000+ points the got last year and only pick up about 4500.

The problem with the GS system (apart from its simple existence) is that a 15000 point swing between two teams can turn on a ref decision or a ball hitting post rather than go in. The losing team can then go out, losing the points it won year ago and a new champ can pick up 8000.

Ranking should be based on week in week out results over the long haul, not on artificially pumped up point values of tournaments, counting only semi and finalists.

Deer Park decided this year they want to tarvel and play in tournaments. They have to pay there dues and play in lower level toyrnaments and try to get some points. They had a good fall and only played two good teams.

I guess rankings is a necessary evil. The tournament need them for seeding purposes. MSC did a good job with that. One has to assume they used gotsoccer rankings to help them out.

Most tmt directors I have asked look who you played and the results rather than the ranking per se. The only value of ranking system is to help coaches find events at the right level for their teams. Gotsoccer's method is driven by the profit model, which promotes tournament attendance.

Tournaments used to be the main method trough which strong teams sought out high level competition to help them improve. But that is an old model.

Regional leagues (other then Region 1 ) can promote regular weekly games at an appropriate level an offer some chance of approaching "best practices" 3:1 practice game ratio and one game on a day. That is the future.

I am glad MSC at least dropped the 5 game on a weekend model for finalists.
