A regular Club or town team can't compare to a Pre Academy or Academy team. Even ODP is at a much lower level than a USSF Academy team. At this point no matter if you are on the first place or last place team the Academy Clubs are by far the highest level of soccer in NY.

Agreed! No matter what folks say here, when a coach hears that a kid has come up playing on a club with an academy program, the coach immediately takes notice of the kid. There are are about 80 in the country, so they're known and can only help your kid get noticed.

You are completelt clueless in this area. You havely clearly never watched Met Oval play. Their pre-academy teams are the equivalent of club teams playing in LIJ D1 with an outside chance at ENY Premier - clearly not the highest level of soccer in NY. A good example which includes actual club team players playing against these so called elite players is Super-Y. The exact same players from the Met Oval pre-acdemy programs play as the super-y Brooklyn Knights teams. Against the better teams in super-y (which are essentially made up of club players) those teams have had very little success.

At this point based on your above comments you are clearly: A) a complete idiot; B) a kool-aid drinking moron; C) an academy trainer; or D)all of the above.

You are all right . The academy idea was the best soccer idea never implemented by the USSF. Short sighted opinions. The academy ideal was to raise training and development to a new level so the new generation of USA national players would be capable of competing internationally and would not have to go overseas for training. We could not qualify for the Olympics.Does that not tell you how far behind we are?The way you talk you would think the Academies existed soley for the purpose of college recruiting. Maybe the college coaches invented the academies and implemented them since that is what they have become about to make their lives easier. That is why they have become so political and not about talent, training or development. It is ODP all over again at a different level with the same problems. There is alot of money being spent on this sport to have such poor results. Big athletic kids playing smash mouth soccer will never win cause they don't get what the game is about and are not being coached to get it. Not in high school odp academy or college. Good luck moving forward till you fix that.

Get noticed for what money? most of the kids arent true soccer players many are one dimensional. Get ready for the bench and D3 at best.

you do realize that many of the best schools in the country are d3 schools. the soccer may not be as good but the academics are outstanding and since most of these kids won't be playing professional ball, isn't it about getting a good education?

Here's a pop quiz -- How many D1 schools are there?

Concentrate on getting a good education, enjoy the game, play somewhere where you have a reasonable chance of being seen by college coaches (Academy or not), and you've got a decent shot at playing D1 in college. Not getting money to play -- that's a pipe dream. But playing and getting a good education at the same time.

194 Mens D1 teams. If each take in 6 players a year that's 1164 matriculating

80 DA teams Graduating 10 players a year with 75% making D1 = 600

So are college coaches on the lookout for talent outside the DA -- you bet: just look at coaches WORKING (not just scouting) a the EDP college ID camp - they aren't doing it for the money.
