A good goalie makes the difference in a lot of games. Soccer is a sport where goals are hard to come by at times. One bad mistake by a goalie and there goes the game.

It's a team effort of course. But in youth soccer the goalie is very important as a poor goalie can cost the team the game very easily. This is my opinion and if some do not agree with me that is fine.

I just want you to realize that a great keeper can only hold the fort down as long as he gets the same support from the team. This is why you see the better players pick up and leave to go to teams where they understand the concept of defense.

you gotta be joking!!! I guess that's why Barcelona, Man Utd, Real Madrid, etc. don't care if their goalies are not good! They just have to get great defenders!
Ridiculous comment!!!!

To put it plainly, a goalkeeper, if he is any good, is the leader.

He orchestrates the defense, provides support, and must be ready to react when called into action.

If he is really good at reading the game and communicating what he sees to his teammates, which few keepers do at this age, he can be the game changer, preventing the opponents from getting many, if any, shots off.

He is the last line of defense and the first to initiate the attack.

Midfielders and defenders are a dime a dozen... effective strikers and goalkeepers are a rare commodity.

My son's team has played against all of the goalkeepers mentioned over the last few pages, and I'll be the first to say that my hat is off to them.

Each of them is the real deal for his age.

If they continue to develop, stay passionate, and keep healthy, I'd be willing to bet that they are all going to have bright future.
