This person is not that far off. I know teachers who coach and probably shouldn't. They get their practice drills and coaching tips off the internet. My son has a track coach who admits he has never ran track in his life.

Im sure everyone understands that school sports is really no different then when we were kids. Some schools get lucky and can find a teacher that played soccer at a decent level to coach their teams. Others dont want to take the risk of hiring a non teacher to coach because they dont know what they are getting. There are a lot of characters out there that schools could not allow to work with students on a daily basis. Take a look at the sideline behavior of some of the LIJ coaches. I wouldnt want one of them influencing my kid on a daily basis. Middle school soccer is really more about the social experience then player development. Keep it in perspective and just let your kid have fun.

All the coaches know is pick the fastest kids and play kick and run. The club coaches and trainers have to deprogram the kids and break them of all the bad habits they pick up during school season.

With all the money you have spent so far on 'training' the kids should be doing the right thing out of habit by now, therefore no needing to be deprogramed by club coaches and trainers. Please don't give club coaches more credit than they deserve, many of them are parallel to school coaches. Most players have been overcoached and smothered by club coaches to the point where they don't think for themselves only react to what they are being told to do. Let them play!

I don't know you so I can not say why you have the opinions you do (Lack of knowledge, lack of experience etc) but I will respectfully disagree. When schools take almost, if not everyone that shows up the players that do know what to do usually become very frustrated with those around them and do NOT play the way they were taught/know how to or they are told not to. Your opinion that many of the club coaches are parallel with the school coaches depends on what level club coaches you are referencing. MOST school coaches have no clue at all so if you are comparing D1 & D2 coaches, again I would have to disagree. D3 and down, you would probably be correct. HHH West is THE perfect example for those that don't know. That Coach was handed an unbelieveable concentration of talent, possibly the highest concentration of talent in a HS in a long long time. His brother happens to be a greaat trainer imo but this HS coach insisted his team play straight kick and run. When his players, from Nationally rank teams, NERP teams, D1 teams tried to pass/posses the ball as they all knew was correct, he would scream at them to "Stop that BS club possession crap. We don't play that crap here" Really ? School coaches THINK they are awesome. Club coaches don't get ENOUGH credit because they sure as heck aren't taught by the school coaches which many are handed the keys to a Porsche and total the car. Only a handful of HS play good soccer, the rest are seriously painful to watch. These are not opinions, they are facts (1 was an opinion)

This guy above is just regurgitating something he wrote long ago about HHH and he's using the same quote. Generalizing from your own bitter and limited experience is more than stupid.

On the high school level, even if you go across town to Commack, or a bit south to Brentwood, or back out East to Sayville, South Hampton, East Hampton.

You are just a half-witted observer of a single school district re-using the same story and the same coach's quote -- which is obviously a second-hand quote.

Summarizing your point of view - your kid, in your view, is a possession player and probably is kind of slow. The coach either didn't keep him on the team or kept him on the bench. You are bitter. So you keep repeating the same tired story and acting as if you have uncovered some Eternal Truth -- when in fact you know less than nothing.

The same guy was on BOTN all the fall season bashing his kid's high school coach at HHHW. What a sleaze. now the same loser gets on the U11 thread and acts as if he is the Guru of Club Soccer and denigrating high school soccer. As someone said to the same sleaze last fall: "What a district of rich, miserable and fake people." The HHHW coach obviously does not give your kid (any/enough) playing time. So just shut up and live with it; things could be worse - imagine how bad your kid's life would be if he had you as a father -- oh, wait, he does have you as a father. I would LOVE to hear your kid get on here and complain about you, the most moronic loser dad of all time. just let your kid live his life and find enjoyment on his own merits instead of dragging down your kid's high school. You miserable fake.

The guy is a broken record. Here are some of the same guy's comments from last fall's school season:
===================================================
Bottom line hhw... Coach has them play kick and run.

West coach delves to lose with that crap soccer he plays with such talented kids.

To the west coach . Retire you don't deservethe talent you squander.
Get a club coach in the area to do it.

Hhwest coach was a baseball player never played soccer. Enough said! Yerrrrr out!

West coach was awful teaching his talented kids to hoof the ball.
Poor possession was key to their loss.
Poor coaching as players didn't spread field and use their overtalented team.
garbage kick & run all because that is what the coach insists on. Far too much talent on that team to play that w
ay.

I agree with some of what you are saying. the problem is if the players don't play the way the school coach tells them to they get benched (which I agree with. He is the coach and they should respect that and play the way he wants) , even though they have trained to play the game the correct way they are not allowed to do so. This can create some bad habits that they bring back to club ball.

I have watched at this point about a hundred games of school ball. i have had 2 kids play through high school. It is rare to find a school that plays quality soccer. it's mostly kick and run and bad kick and run at that. Most games are blowouts.
