pretty good predictions...only one correction, unless gotsoccer got it wrong, which is highly possible, it has AvB and CvD in the semis...so I have WC vs PDA (the better one!) in the final and I am not a WC or PDA parent or coach. PS...I am pretty sure that is how MSC laid it out when they put the brackets together all though they were secretly hoping that WC losses to either HMMS or Northport so they don't have to see them again

What makes this format great unlike tournaments like Jeff Cup; MSC at this age recognizes how many competitive clubs there are and went with a group of 16 rather than just having two groups and 8 teams total at the top level. I think MSC tried to balance the 4 divisions by having teams that have not played each other have that opportunity. There is no conspiracy of trying to make it easier for the home club.

Let's make sure you have the facts before the stupidness runs wild. A v B and C v D as originally stated.....

... We really did not want to do any groups of 16 to avoid having any teams play 5 games in two days. We felt flights of 8 were the best option for a 2-day tournament, though if we had a 3rd day it would be different. But we also have done our best across the board to balance competitive level and geographical diversity. It's a preseason tournament so most coaches we spoke with were far more concerned about playing new teams than 'getting points'. So we floated the idea of going to 16 teams to a number of the coaches we knew would be in the top group and they were all ok with it. We did not see the need to go past 8 teams elsewhere.

... as for the seedings? All I'm going to say about that is that after 4 months of research we feel we did the best job we could making these groups as even as we could, while still giving every coach what they asked for. We had to not only consider the competitive balance, but also try to make sure teams got a chance to play as many new teams as possible - which is nearly impossible as so many of the teams in the top group have played each other multiple times. But it meant keeping track of tournament and league play - including crossover leagues like EDP and the one we can't mention here - as well as the upcoming Spring leagues and tournaments like Jeff Cup. It was a difficult task to say the least. So every bracket has teams that have played each other - often recently. It was unavoidable.

Let's not make this about the parents as with the U13 thread. Let's keep to the topic of ENY for the Spring and not concern ourselves about a team in NJ.
