Looking back your werent even 1/2 right . Smithtown ok , Lindenhurst moved up and couldnt hang , bay shore played in a low division because thats what they wanted and signed up as a low team , plus you never know who is on that team . Coach pulls from 3 teams . HBC had a much stronger group last year [maybe everyone is tired of going there for the hype which just isnt there ] Commack is a good team but lets see how good if they move up . At this age look at goals against , that will tell you the teams with the good keepers and good D . Let's look at the divisions now and than talk spring !!

Question . I'm new at this , HELP!! My son a bu10 "B" player got very few minutes from a 1 st year coach that has soccer back ground but never coached a team . I thought we were on a team to learn and grow , How do I address the coach who is not easy to address ??

Some clubs have minimum playing guidelines for u10s. If yours does, maybe that can be a starting point. This is so unfair to young children.

A friend of mine is a first year coach which he's discovered can be a thankless job. He called me the other night with his conundrum. 1/2 the parents are complaining that little Johnny isn't playing enough and the other half are yelling that if you want to win, you have to pull little Johnny out!
I would say all kids at this age should play at least 10mins a half provided they come to practice regularly and do not continually goof around, regardless of their ability level. They may not play as much as the best players, but if you have committed to the team, the team should commit to you. They're 9 years old! At least give them the opportunity to discover soccer and hone a few basic skills before they get to middle school and are shown that life isn't fair.

I'm not so sure I'll get a majority agreement given the a-type personalities that seem to be drawn to these BOTN threads.
try their beat in practice

Sounds like the coach from Runt of the Litter series. Seriously, I thought most teams at U10 tried to give fair playing time.

Thanks all , We are at every practice and he is not the worst on the team nor the best . I know where he falls and will get better .. We'll give it the winter and spring , get him some training and go from there . He loves the game but super coach knows best !!

Your son is just starting his soccer "career" at this age. Never be afraid to talk to the Coach and let him know that while your son goes to every practice, he doesn't get that many minutes. The last thing that you want to happen is that he gets discouraged or bored and then it becomes an unpleasant experience. Not saying it happened this time but I have always been amazed at how parents will not be happy about something the Coach is doing but they sometimes will not communicate and be straight with the Coach. If he's a nice guy, try and develop a good relationship with him, get to know him. Also, if even if Dad or Mom know nothing about the game, volunteer to help out at practices or as an assistant Coach, many times the Coach will need help. Just keep the communication lines open so that your son's experience will be a positive one. Good luck!

Funny, but at least I had an opinion...I must have missed yours. Always easy to be a Monday morning QB.

it really depends on where the coach wants to take the team. if he's happy with whatever division his team can attain, he probably gives more playing time to the bottom of the roster. if he has grand aspirations, the bottom gets shorted. sometimes, alot. the reality
of option "B" teams is turnover. commitment is only part of the equation, talent is required and the pursuit of it by the coaches and many parents shopping their kids will astound you in the next few years.
